Stolen Bacon

Passive Aggressive Notes documents multiple instances of stolen bacon. My favorite is the one above; a lot of people must've been opening those boxes. Why? I just don't know.

...to see how meaty the slices are? I mean, many boxes have a little window you can open to check it out, but w/o that, you'd have to do a little ripping or opening to check.

@wendywoowho: I could see wanting to do that, but then...I can't imagine actually opening boxes of stuff to see the size of something without asking an employee first.

I agree-- they want to see how meaty it is. The package window isn't enough for these people.
Seriously, tho', I remember when bacon was priced like a throw-away part and now it is priced like (cheap) steak!

Absolutely, to check the marbling. If the retailer gets too many open boxes, he might let the producer know that his customers want to know what they are buying.
@roboppy, first try finding an employee and then you expect him to feel like he has the authority to authorize open packaging! Let's get serious... It could take all day to buy a pound of pork. The producers need to get it right and the retailer needs to be an advocate for his customers.

The joke is, it's not the marbling, it's the quality of the curing.
If you see any liquid at all, it's a bad sign.
If it has lots of sugar (or sugar alternatives), it's a bad sign.
If it has concentrated celery juice, it's a really bad sign (and may have semi-dangerous nitrates that were banned many years ago, but slip through because celery is "natural").
I'd rather buy ends and odd pieces from dry cured country bacon, than have the most even marbled nasty bacon.

I do it, same as when I open a carton of eggs to make sure none are cracked. I would never rip open a box, but if there is a way to wiggle it a bit so I can peer inside and see the meaty goodness... hell yeah.

The meat packer probably came up with the idea to pack the stuff not good enough for the window packs in boxes, so people can't see the product. Not all bacon is created equal....
Must be a problem in that store they have 3 signs.

Why can't American bacon be shown like Canadian and Italian bacons? Full out in plastic containers. We get to see all of it. Or start selling as they do down here in the South as a streak o' lean. Then you know you aren't getting any meat with your slab of fat.
