Doughnut Plant's Creme Brulee Doughnuts

I have not seen the Throwdown episode, although I have heard that it wasn't the owner's (Mark Israel) best moment. I will say that I had the opportunity recently to meet Mark at Doughnut Plant and try some doughnuts and I left with a great impression of Mark. This man is truly passionate about his doughnuts! Plus, his story of how he started out is pretty neat - check out the history section on doughnutplan.com

Of course, my impression of him is helped by the fact that he's making what I consider to be the best doughnuts around.

thinking of starting a "supper club", advice needed.

Check out this great article that appeared in the NY Times this past August. I recently went to the Undergrounds Unite dinner here in NYC. It was 5 different supper clubs that came together to put on a big dinner. It was a fantastic event and showed how much interest there is in the supper clubs. As someone who goes to the supper clubs (as opposed to hosts), I can say that I am happy to bring wine/drinks and also contribute $$ (I don't expect that the chef foots the bill).

I would, however, be wary of potential health code/regulatory issues.

Hummus in the freezer?

I freeze hummus. It's not 100% right on (in terms of taste and consistency) after defrosting, but pretty close. I've made it ahead of time for a party, freezed it and defrosted for the party. Seemed to go over quite well!
