Fast Food Dessert Battle: Wendy's Twisted Frosty vs. McFlurry vs. BK Sundae Shake

I always loved that the Wendy's kid's meal came with a mini Frosty (in addition to a normal drink, fries, burger, AND A TOY). It didn't taste much like real ice cream, in fact it was pretty chemically-tasting, but it was heaven in a cup. And just the right amount. Will have to try this Twisted Frosty business.

Does anyone else get really excited to see limited-edition McFlurry flavors around the world? My favorite has to the Bounty one they sold when I lived in Prague. Hm, I wonder if they'd ever consider letting people BYOCandy to blend customizable Flurries..

Taste Test: The Best Fast-Food Breakfast Sandwiches

@McNormal: It's true. You can get a just-made-that-second breakfast sandwich on just about every corner in NYC at a bodega or deli, or even cart. But unfortunately there are plenty of other cities that don't have that luxury, and sometimes you're on the road and the fast-food chain is all ya got. So we did it for those life scenarios.

@annabanannas: We did try the Wawa pancake sizzli, but we have to side with toad3000. The McGriddle all the way.

@xRyanx: We tried the Breakfast Jack, Supreme Croissant, and the new Grilled Breakfast Sandwich at Jack in the Box, but not the Ultimate. Looks like almost a double version of the Breakfast Jack plus bacon? Sounds promising since the one complaint we had about the B-Jack was the sparsity of fillings. It almost felt like eating an empty sandwich.

@DCLSweetspot: Whoa you can request a real fried egg instead of the rubbery loaf at McDonald's? I had no idea! Thanks for sharing!

@Rodzilla: I am also obsessed with Sheetz. When I walked into one on a Virginia roadtrip for the first time, I stayed for a half-hour plus. Could not leave. It was like a gas station convenience store PLAYGROUND. Have you ever experienced the F'Real shakes?

@drmoze: I've heard rumors of the Five Guys breakfast sandwich at select airport locations (like Dulles and Reagan in DC), but never actually tried one. Do they exist at "normal" locations, anyone know?

Recap: The Next Food Network Star, Season Six Premiere

Great recap, Leah! And love the commentary from Mama Douglas! I didn't expect to be as excited as I am for this season. Aria is definitely sticking around for a bit -- she was the least awkward when filming the 15-second promo (and c'mon, her smile lights up Bobby's heart!). I'm also a fan of Beret Brad. Can somebody please get Dzintra some goggles for the next episode? As someone who's put their contacts in backwards way too many times, I can only imagine her pain.

I was there on Memorial Day Monday and can confirm, yes! Some of the vendors (including Country Boys, and I was really hankering for a huarache, sigh) took the holiday off but they're back on the normal weekend schedule.

@aouellette: We tried many a biscuit but as mentioned above, we're still searching for "the one."

@joeqboo: They actually freeze the eggs then cook them in a rethermalizer, which is basically a food re-heater that uses the sous-vide technique of cooking food in pouches in hot water to ensure more exact temperatures. In other words, a big piece of equipment that's not a microwave or a saute pan.

@tikhon, toad3000, and others: We are fans of the Chick-Fil-A minis, but sadly couldn't get our hands on any for this side-by-side tasting. There aren't any CFAs in NYC, unless you count the "secret one" in the NYU food court. When we went over there, they didn't open until 11 am, hence no breakfast (which stops service at 10:30 am at the other locations!).

@cycorider: Haven't tried the Quiznos. Will have to investigate..

@Amandarama: McMuffin + hashbrown + ketchup = GENIUS.

@deetroitMI: We saved you the details on Subway, Tim Hortons, and BK.. none of those did it for us.

@asforme: I don't doubt that they're actually made from real eggs, but have never seen a McDonald's employee fry one right then and there.

@AJ Stewart: Wawa's ciabatta is a ciabatta in name only. Totally agree that it looks more like their hoagie rolls, and very un-ciabatta-like.
