I love Jay Rayner -wish we could get this in the UK -fingers crossed!
Shake Shack Line Lengthens as Mercury Rises
We visited Shake Shack last Sunday on a visit to NY and I can see why people stand in line for those burgers - they're GREAT! I now understand why when New Yorkers come to London they be-moan the burgers here!
And the shake was FAB - just what my hangover called for!
The Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry at British McDonald's
This is usually my favourite Mcflurry of the year!!
We have creme eggs here all year round - and the new twisted creme egg bars which are fabulous!

Snapshots from the UK: British Blue Eggs
Cotswold Legbars are some of the nicest eggs you can get - they also have some called Burford Browns which have the most wonderful coloured yolk

10 Best Snow Day Eats in New York
Thanks for the tips - we're coming to NY on Wednesday, I'm hoping the snow has calmed down a bit!!!!
Have a Cold? Soothe Your Throat with These Remedies
I have honey, lemon and ginger and a couple of cloves with hot water, my husband always insists on adding a good splash of whiskey to that if he's got a cold! He is also quite addicted to Jakemans cough sweets - I'm quite partial to the cherry flavour myself, he prefers the aniseed ones http://www.jakemans.com/home.ashx
Fresh Food on TV: Weekday Edition
In the UK,Last Restaurant Standing was called The Restaurant and it was one of my favourite shows. I cannot believe how little people who want to run restaurants know about food! Enjoy :)
Co. Pizzeria Soft Opening Photo Gallery
We are coming to NY in a month and I am already dreaming of eating here. The pizza looks WAY better than anything we get in the UK! I really want to try brussel sprout pizza. Great pictures!
Eat for Eight Bucks: Spaghetti in Creamy Pea Sauce with Crisped Prosciutto
I TOTALLY have to make this dish! I adore peas! I freaked out the guy in our works canteen one time just having a huge plate of peas for my lunch - I had a craving and I went with it, they're just great. I went through a phase of having peas pretty much every night for dinner, my husband actually took to wondering if I was ok when we didn't have peas!
Mushy peas are great also - if you make them yourself with some garlic..yum
In Videos: Cupcake Falls in Love with Squash in 'Sweet Dreams' (Stop-Motion Animation)
This is a really great animation! Although I was shocked at the cupcake nudity ;)
Sugar Rush: $1 Cookie Dough 'Shots' at the Roasting Plant
I love coffee and my husband loves cookie dough so I think we may be popping in here for a fix on our visit to NY!
The Icing vs. Frosting Debate
I've always been led to believe that icing (icing sugar and water/lemon juice) is what we have on top of fairy cakes in the UK and frosting (buttercream/cream cheese frosting etc) is what is on top of cupcakes or between the layers of layer cakes!
Ikea Groceries: Some Assembly Required
@mrbill - yes Ikea in the UK sells booze - absolut vodka, and some other Swedish booze, including Swedish ale, Koppaberg perry, liquers and glogg at Christmas time!
Ikea Groceries: Some Assembly Required
My husband refuses to accompany me to Ikea unless he has meatballs and gravy in the cafe there! We usually buy some meatballs and gravy mix to take home so we can recreate this at home, however here in the UK they have stopped selling the sauce for some reason. We are coming to NY in March so I may have to go to the nearest Ikea and stock up on it!
I really like the coconut ball cakes from their grocery store too - not sure if you get them in the US - they're little round balls or chocolatey goodness covered in coconut. And I ALWAYS have to stock up on Dime bar there - yummy!
Learn It, Don't Burn It: NYC Food Classes, 1/8 to 1/16
I was really hoping the cupcake class would be running when I come to NY in March but alas I'm there a couple of weeks too early - would've been great to go to a cupcake baking class in NY!
Cooking with Kids: Toy Doner Kebab
I think I shold buy this for my husband as he loves donner kebabs so much! In the UK donner kebabs come in pitta, the ones we've had in Germany are much nicer though as I love the bread they come with! Our gyro we had in the States was not so good - too much garlic sauce which I didn't enjoy! Hoping to try a decent one after a few drinks in NY in March!
The Year That Was: Movies
We watched A Matter of Loaf and Death on Christmas day (along with most of the UK) and I highly recommend it!
Snapshots from the UK: Percy Pigs
@London_Janice - I would try to set up a business but I think I'd end up eating them all before posting! I sent these to friend in the States regularly as she cannot get them there - they are by far my favourite sweet! Maybe we need to set up a Serious Eats food exchange!
I've stopped going into M&S as I really am trying to wean myself off these!
Time for a Drink: Hot Toddy
In Scotland we add a slice of lemon, some honey and a couple cloves - a perfect cold cure!
When visiting my mother a few years ago my husband got really sick with the cold and we found an old Scottish recipe book which made the toddy with hot milk and an egg - we made it for him and it didn't look too great but he drunk it all (I may have added more whiskey than the recipe called for!) and it certainly helped him sleep!
When do you Serious Eats?
I check it at lunchtime at work and also in the evenings when I'm at home! due to the time difference between the US and UK I like to check I dont miss any posts!
I have rapidly become addicted to Serious Eats!
Eggnog Cupcakes
What a gorgeously festive cupcake! I want to eat one now!
Snapshots from the UK: The English Foodstuff Lexicon
I saw mention of a veggie haggis and had to say TRY IT! Its great! Although I grew up in Scotland I've never been able to stomach trying meat haggis due to the smell but I adore the veggie one and we have it with neeps and tatties every Burns Night without fail!
My husband recommends the meat one from Coburns in Dingwall (my home town...also suppliers of the haggis at Madonnas wedding to Guy) which he can only eat when I'm away for a couple of days with work or he has to put up with me retching throughout the house!
If you're going to Scotland to try food I also recommend butteries and macaroni pies! oh and macaroons and tablet if you're sweet toothed!
Gourmet Burger Kitchen Is Not Bad for the UK
I've been to GBK a few times (I work just near St Pauls) and I've never had any gristle, but then maybe I'm just lucky as I've always had a burger thats quite rare and rather tasty in there - mind you I wouldn't class myself as a burger expert by any means!
I had a burger in the Fox and Anchor in Smithfields a few weeks ago which was fantastic and came with goose fat fries if you're looking for somewhere with the best fries in the UK!!!
If you're looking for a good milkshake in the UK the best I've had is in Leon
Snapshots from the UK: Ribena, and the Guinness and Black
Sometimes there's nothing nicer than a good snakebite and black - my youth was spent making really strong snakebite n black and freezing it into a slush - yummy!
@Chrismc - I had weiss bier in Germany made with banana juice and I've never tasted anything so gross - maybe I should've tried it in a stout!
Ribena is a lovely squah - I have a fantastic cuddly ribena berry sitting on top of my work computer - when you squish it is does the wuhu sound of ribena berrys!
Snapshots from the UK: The English Foodstuff Lexicon
@Esmerelda - no worries at all! Hope you like the blog - its full of places, mainly in London, to buy cupcakes! There's an occasional mention of fairy cakes too.
@Jennywenny - those ones are called butterfly cakes!
@NotAmerican - never heard of a sausage roll with potato in it!
Scotland is the best place to go for baked goods such as pies - you can get everything from meat pies to my all time favourite macaroni cheese pie! Seriously this is my idea of ideal comfort food!
