Home Remedies for Sore Throats?

Hah! I just read through all the posts, and was excited to post my favorite remedy, but @FoodieSearching beat me to it.

If you don't have any stock on hand, boullion works in a pinch. I also add black pepper and sambal paste.

If this sounds horrible to you, or like it will make your throat hurt worse, stick to honey/lemon/ginger preparations. But I swear by it! It actually seems to relive my throat pain.

RE: Bloody Sausage?

I really think that people get turned off by the name. If it was called a spread or a pate I think more people would eat it.

What to feed my sick ladies at home?

Tea and toast. Sounds good to me even when I'm not sick.

How Do You Use Foods Past Their Prime?

I have some LARGE red peppers that are not quite as crisp as they once were. I'm planning to roast them tonight, but was wondering if anyone has suggestions for storing them. I'd prefer not to use olive oil for cost reasons. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

As Tulsa as A Coney

I'm not familiar with Tulsa, but I know it's far, far, far away from Coney Island. So I took your phrase to refer to two diparate things, like "As New York as Spam Musubi."

Are You a Menu Whisperer?

@mgnnn-While I understand the importance of willpower, I can only be so strong. I ask my fiancee not to bring chips or ice cream home, because they are much easier to ignore when they are not in front of me. Similar forces are at work at a restaurant. Sometimes I just don't want to be tempted, because I have a tendency to give in when faced with delicious morsels!

Are You a Menu Whisperer?

Not a menu whisperer (though I did think it meant having a 6th sense for picking out the best dish on the menu). But a friend and I did do the smogasboard thing once. It was so much fun, and we both had plenty of leftovers. I felt less full after small tastes of everything than if I'd eaten a lot of one entree.

Yes, it's more expensive. Try to do it at lunch if you can. As long as you eat the leftovers, you haven't wasted any money or food.

Will N1H1 flu scare change your dining out habits?

+1 Ribster, Comment of the Week!

"Oh and doesn't a few alcoholic drinks count towards killing a few germs? Isn't hand sanitizer nothing more than jellied Vodka? :0)

A few martinis and a flu shot, you should be good to go....."

Reality Check: What's the New Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust Pan Pizza Like? We Try It

Ya nailed it..."The Hut does what it does best in the suburbs." I don't know why, but it's so true. Eat-in Pizza Hut with salad bar is a completely different thing than take out or delivery.

And if the only choices were Papa Johns, Domino's or Pizza Hut, it would be Pizza Hut or...nothing.

thinking back to 9/11 - a meal shared with friends.....

I was in college at the time, unable to afford an apartment of my own and living with my parents. My comfort food has always been Kraft Mac+Cheese. I ate it for dinner on 9/11, 9/12, 9/13 and 9/14 while glued to CNN. Eventually I was able to extricate myself from obsessive news-watching and comfort-seeking.

Best food for a stomach ache?

Starch, grease, and salt. McDonald's is a good one for that.

Revisiting Brian Boitano

+1. Funny and cheeky. I especially liked the first episode where he talked about how he likes to ride his bicycle on rainbows.

From Talk

Cooking for someone on medical marijuana?

+1 to pacobug's recipe. Peanut butter, bananas, and milkshakes are great sources of nutrition. Excellent for people who are trying to gain weight. I've heard of people adding flax seed oil to a shake, so I'll bet THC butter would combine similarly.

No-knead bread question???

I saw the C.I. version this weekend on PBS. Does anyone have the recipe? I know it was *slightly* different from the original.

From Talk

What Will Brian Boitano Make?

Thought it was pretty funny and tongue-in-cheek(y). Plus, I could live on little appetizer-snacky things, and he made a bunch last week. Looks like the new ep will have plenty of that too.

Definitely pasta. Actually, I think I do eat it every day.

Out of the Box: Dr. Oetker Ristorante Mozzarella Frozen Pizza

I tried the Mozzarella version when it first came out several months ago. Found it to be very tasty, and if I'm ever in the market for a frozen pizza, I'll definitely buy it again.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 81: A Frank Chat with Frank Bruni on Being 'Born Round'

I do binge sometimes (last one was 10 cheese ravioli, a 4 inch section of baguette w/ PB+J and 3oz cheese with crackers). I feel horrible for days after. Mad at myself, guilty for sabotaging my efforts, and ashamed. I don't think I'm capable of a controlled binge schedule.

Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks

Platt's Place has been out of business for over 20 years. They used to have great ice cream and deli sandwiches. For the past 10 years or so that location has been a Buca di Beppo. Wolf Road is 1-2 hours south of where you intended to stop. If you do change your mind, avoid Wolf Rd. at all costs. It has every Olive Garden-Cheesecake Factory-P.F.Chang's-Outback-Red Lobster-Macaroni Grill known to mankind and is completely unrepresentative of what makes Upstate great!

Mmmm! I rarely drink it but grape soda is awsome. So are orange soda and strawberry soda- all "Crush" brand.

Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adirondack_Park

Most of the area you'll be driving through is Adirondack Park, the largest National Historic Landmark and publicly protected area in the US. Not a ton of development, but we kind of like it that way. I-87 runs through it, but there is little else besides beavers and moose.

Glens Falls has a cute little main street with some nice places to eat. I hear Siam Thai Sushi is nice for Thai food, but there are also some "local flavor" diners. Glens Falls is a few miles before Lake George on 87 north.

http://visit.cityofglensfalls.com/eateries/

Have a great trip! Once you get to Montreal, you'll have so many choices you'll have to eat 8 meals a day!

Sorry, obviously I was not aware that morbose is a word. I was not familiar with it. In case it's a new word to anyone else, here's a def:

Morbose= Proceeding from disease; morbid; unhealthy.
