Best Banh Mi in NYC

Paris bakery, the most authentic? I like them but were talking the Subway of Banh Mi......Case in point, look closely at the menu, Buffalo Chicken and Tuna Salad banh mi???? I don't see any of those offered in Saigon, also they don't actually BBQ the meat there. Not trying to start a banh mi war but I find SVS and even Sau Voi to be the most authentic.

Oh and finally the iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk is so much better almost everywhere.

Best Banh Mi in NYC

I'll co-sign that. I think it's much better than the highly overrated jewelry store around the corner. Baoguette's isn't bad but I think SVS and Nicky's make the two best. You can check out a pic on my blog

Eleven Madison Park

yeah, I'm finding it hard to believe. Every Meyer restaurant I've been to has been top notch, EMP and Tabla especially. And sometimes instead of dressing up, I'll just throw on True Religions, Nike Dunks and t-shirts or polos. Again, I've never had bad service in any of the many Meyer restaurants that I've been to.....sounds like some player hating going on.

Eleven Madison Park

It really is I had an amazing meal there around Christmas 07.' An awesome piece of steak with bone marrow crust, a lobster winter stew with a hot mace broth poured over the shelled meat at the table, a peanut butter and chocolate tart with sea salt and olive oil, complimentery candy and amuse bouche, great cocktails and an amazing bottle of barolo, the service was five stars and the food was awesome.

my top 5 favorite restaurants in NY

1. Babbo
2. Momofuku Ssam
3. Eleven Madison Park
4. Shopsin's
5. Nobu

Monin or Torani.....or you could make homemade Raspberry syrup if you're feeling spunky.

oxycontin. If I go a week without having some, my legs start aching and my eyes start watering.

Good Brunch in NYC with not too long of a wait!

Freeman's isn't too far from Prune and I've got lucky a few times there and had no wait, Balthazar isn't always bad, Schiller's Liquor Bar usually doesn't have a wait, Shorty's 32 is really good, The Smith and not Smith's is excellent and has fair prices and I've never waited there but my absolute favorite is Freeman's if you go there make sure to get hot artichoke dip and prarie oyster shooters if you need a good hangover cure!

Saturday Night Drinks

Great Topic!!!

switching between sloe gin fizzes with plymouth sloe gin and gin rickey's made with the brand new Old Tom Gin (I love Eric Seed!) and will probably move on to absinthe frappes with Kubler before I head down to San Gennaro for some pastries and trashy bridge and tunnel chicks....However, where we all should be is celebrating Lenell Smother's 5th year anniversary over in Red Hook!!!

Best liquor store in the world!!!!

Where can I buy mustard seed in NYC below 14th street?

chelsea market, the produce store has great deals on nice sized plastic containers of spices, always go there to get ingredients for cocktail bitters.

Is Ketel One considered a premium vodka?

it is a premium vodka and anyone that sneers at you for ordering it, is a foolish fool. The definition of vodka is a colorless, odorless, tasteless spirit. The premiums go through more filtering than the cheaper vodkas so they taste cleaner and purer, but the taste profiles are not much different at all and all quality vodkas are virtually identical. Why anyone would drink straight vodka, I have no idea but once you make that decision the brands should not be in question,

Thoughts on Babbo?

BBQ Octopus, Bucatini, Lamb, Duck, Domingo's Pyramids, Goat Cheese Truffles....lol have fun.

Make sure to try the house infused grappas with dessert!

Best Mint Julep in NYC?

I'm co-signing with Kathyrn unless you have a very specific beef with ownership that you are willing to "air-out' (that is you can vouch for, not second hand information) you shouldn't go around writing things you "hear" that can impact a business, you would not like it if someone did that to you. Alex is awesome, the owner is cool and bar is quiet.

Death & Co. Hands down it's not even close

I won't visit your site, if you post links with every comment.

Lol sounds like you need a good shrink, I'd put the number on here but I don't want to advertise anybody and make you angrier......

since you decided to be so "honest" I'll do the same in that spirit....

I usually do post my blog when I comment which is rare (I only speak when I feel I have a vaild opinion) but when I do, it usually relates to something on my blog, so I know you're not targeting me, however....

How can you be annoyed that someone tries to further themselves and perhaps a business they are trying to start by promoting it? Maybe someone on here goes to the site and tells their friend about it who tells their friend, who wants to advertise on their site? That should be stopped because it annoys you, or your eyes can't tolerate looking it? No one's spamming you, no one's forcing you to go to their blog.

I have an idea, start your own food website where this is not allowed....Remember though, don't advertise it anywhere, you wouldn't want traffic, right?

Get over it, sorry you're just not that special

Romantic Dinner in NYC?

One If By Land Two If By Sea is very romantic but the food's just not that great.

If you're looking for Italian, Babbo is very romantic but a pain in the ass to get a reservation, Peasent is a little easier and at Il Buco you'll fell like you're eating in an Italian couintryside farmhouse.

You can also do Italian/Seafood all at once and visit Batali's Esca which if the outdoor seating is open is very romantic (first dinner with my girlfriend) the tasting menu with the crudo and paired wines is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life

Indian food in Manhattan, NYC?

Wow....quite a question, I'm going to have to put my vote in for Tamarind on East 22nd with Devi and Bukhara Grill playing second and third fiddle respectively.

Margarita

This is something I came up with at a cocktail tasting is different and works really well, it's called a Nueva Maergarita

2 ounces really good silver tequila (I recommend Patron but Sauza works as well)

1 ounce of freshly squeezed blood orange juice

1/2 ounce of falernum (Velvet is now readily available)

shake with ice and strain into margarita glass and for each guest flame a blood orange peel above each drink and drop in (this adds a wonderful smokey orange flavor, which plays great with the tequila and falernum)

enjoy!
