What Weird Family Foods Did You Grow Up Thinking Were Normal?

Bulgar and chickpeas topped with plain yogurt and soy sauce. YUM.

From Serious Eats

The Coffee Wars Continue

Press pot at home. We order from different (and expensive!)roasters regularly like Stumptown, Blue Bottle, Ecco, etc, drink multiple cups of coffee a day, and spend much less than if I were buying a latte at McD's or DD daily.

If I want to waste my little bit of cash on coffee, I am going to go somewhere with a smart barista and tasty coffee (Gimme! coffee is my poison in upstate NY), not waste it on cheap slag.

Cooking with Amaranth

I mix with quinoa (2 parts quinoa to 1 part amaranth) and use as a couscous, or as a replacement for rice. The nutty flavor is great mixed with a stir-fry with cashews or peanuts. I suggest one with baby peas, tiny chopped carrots and broccoli, shallots and ginger, soy sauce, sriracha and honey to taste. Top with some beans sprouts and cashews for a super easy and healthy weeknight dinner.

McCafe: McDonald's New Fancier, Pricier Coffee

You may as well seek out some really good coffee, there is barely a price difference between McCafe and a good cafe and the quality and flavor is obviously worlds apart. In NYC, Gimme!, Joe and 9th Street Espresso all offer the same drinks in the same price range--and it will be a drink to savor.... otherwise, check out http://www.espressomap.com to find quality obessed coffee shops in the US.

What’s Your Favorite Weird Snack Combo?

Cheese puffs dipped in peanut butter and then rolled in hot cocoa mix. Delightful!
