Dove recipes?

Being from Texas, I knew you meant birds. But also being from Texas, I've always had them in the bacon-wrapped and stuffed with a jalapeno format you mentioned. I wonder if you could fry the whole bird, maybe like a piece of fried chicken?

What about one restaurant week every month?

I think that's a great idea. As a fellow DFW Serious Eater, I really look forward to Restaurant Week. I think several restaurants have set up more affordable multiple course prixe-fixed menus (Craft comes to mind) and some have setup lunch deals that I read about. It's not the same as Restaurant Week, but it's a start. And several of the restaurants extend their offers for multiple weeks.

Who Likes Grape Soda?

Good stuff, though it always makes me think of those chewable purple Tylenol tabs I took as a child.
@hmcnally: isn't there an alcoholic version of Purple Passion now? I swear I had a friend in college who loved that stuff

Abalone - Got any good recipes?

When I lived in San Jose we used to pound them flat and then bread and pan fry them, that's the best way to do it! You're already fixing them the best way possible!

Video: Brooklyn's Illegal Urban Beekeepers

This is really cool. Any idea what type of financial investment this requires to get started, and the time committment involved? Or maybe a good book that was used to get started just to get a better idea of what is involved?

Money Saving Tips On Food

I don't know where you are, but I live in Dallas and we have "Fiesta" supermarkets, that cater to the hispanic population. For whatever reason the prices there are always cheaper, sometimes even on the exact same products. And I always find interesting ingredients I would never find at my usual grocery store.

Cook the Book: 'Modern Spice'

I'd go with southeast asia for sure! Vietnam, Thai, all sorts of great cheap eats come from there!

Regional Fast Food Chains

Chicken Express! I think they're only in the south, but here in Texas they have awesome chicken tenders, but even better is the sweet tea. And they have "Dublin Dr. Pepper", Dr. Pepper made with cane sugar and not corn syrup, straight from Dublin, TX!

One Dozen Trader Joe's Eggs, Each with a Double Yolk

At the farmers market I go to in Dallas one of the farmers seperates out the double yolked eggs and you can buy those by the dozen.

What I Like About the Corn Syrup Commercials

I think its just as much about being an informed consumer. So many people don't realize what is in the food they are consuming in the first place, it baffles me. I thought Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food were great at summarizing this and not going overkill. I recommend them to people all the time. And on top of that just stick with the "everything in moderation" idea.

Trip to Memphis, Need Ideas

I make a trip to Memphis every year with a group of college buddies. We usually go see a game at the Redbird's Stadium downtown, and we inevitably drink too much on Beale Street.

We always go to Central BBQ for the BBQ Nachos. Pulled pork, liquid cheese, BBQ sauce and tons of other good stuff over chips. No better hangover food out there. And one trip to Rendevous (not crazy about it, but world famous). You could also check out Coletta's, the only place I've ever seen BBQ pizza, I think they have a couple locations.

absentminded kitchen disasters

When I was 15 I was making some sort of fruit smoothie with my mom's immersion blender. After I was done, I went to clean it under the sink with running water. Like an idiot, I left it plugged in as I ran my finger around the blade to get out the rest of the fruit smoothie.

I managed to hit the "On" button while my finger was in there poking at the blade and took off the tip of my left index finger.

Never again will I clean a plugged in appliance.

McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?

Love 'em! If I'm really hungry I'll put a FOF inside a cheeseburger for a McSurfn'Turf

Do you enjoy eating game?

I'm sadly disappointed. When I read the topic line I thought someone had come up with an eating game, like drinking games. But I love venison, maybe we can combine the two.
