Top Chef or Food Network Star
I agree, that Esquire photo was ill-considered. Whats the most icky squicky thing for guys re: girls? Squishy..., red, oh my goodness .. it absolutely evokes Carrie.
This last episode of TC with Rocco (who I have a negative bias against but want to give him credit, if I can).
Tom came off looking like a jackass. It looked like the producers were working overtime to make him look like an ass. I wonder if there is a rift there and they are starting to edge him out.
Jackass moments:
the whole truffle pissy fit of his including his stud-fest against Rocco.
the whole prissy thing about the tinned artichokes and the precious 6th grade girl look he gave.
the whole nasty trash talk for the camera right outside the kitchen door after his walkthrough
there is more but, well, its tedious really
I gotta say, I really loathe Tom. Padma, eh, she is benign to me. Tom, he is a loathsome egotistical..., I better stop before I say something unkind.
Food Network Star? pathetic. It makes me sad to watch only because well, because I wasted some time of my life when I could have been doing something really important, like cleaning my range top or dumping the kitty litter or even scraping my deck. These things are of great life importance in comparison to TFNNS.
I personnally prefer Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and Iron Chef to any other food program.
Oh can I say I find that wine parings chick fantastically creepy?
She is like this minute alcoholic elf in the kitchen who is sneaking about making queer meals that are meant to showcase vague wines which she quaffs, gulps oddly, eyes bulging, and gasping she says how it absolutely compliments the peanut-cabbage-foie gras burritos she just made.
Meeting Mario
Beautiful interview, well done. You really put the reader on the scene and made MM speak through the screen. Its simple and to the point. Thanks for sharing!
Food Network never asked ME what I want to watch.. I have to ask just who they ARE asking.. I will take one MM over 10 rachels, 50 Giadas and about a million semi-concious females.
somewhere, i recently read a food article discussing french cuisine which discussed that the french pretty much only use 3 herbs in their cooking.
saltsmoke: I think I would like to see what it looks like when you get started on chervil!

Last night's ICA with Batali was a tour de force. It took my breath away and I am not even an Italian food fanatic nor am I the sort to get weak in the knees for celeb chefs (celeb anything really). On top of this, I am not a parmesan fan AT ALL but I was honestly drooling toward the end.
It was so good I was sort of fearful toward the end that it was a "swan song", Batali's parting shot at the mediocrity of FN. I wonder if I am the only one that feels this way.
Batali and Flay on ICA repeatedly force me to respect their food (I loathe their celebrity and ego), its that good.
Alton Brown is jumping the shark with this latest "Feasting", sad thing that is. Without AB and Batali, there is Flay and that is just not much at all (especially considering that its just Flay on ICA .. Flay on throwdown makes my skin crawl).
Cat Cora? Her ineptitude makes me weep.
Morimoto? Where the heck is he anyways? When Morimoto is on it only serves to make me miss ICJ SO SO much that its hard to watch ICA at all.
Batali is seriously keystone to FN in the authenticity department but is it really a surprise he is taking his toys home?
