Cook the Book: 'Japanese Hot Pots'

I agree with all of the pho comments. My best bowl was for breakfast, atop a roofdeck overlooking Ho Chi Minh City!

What are you eating this weekend?

I made potato leek soup (a tad gummy) with bacon on top. On the side we had my first attempt at bread from the Artisanal Bread in 5 Minutes cookbook (forgot to slash top, a bit gummy also). Dinner was nachos (perfect) and made at home DQ Peanut Buster Parfaits (more than perfect). Watched Wizard of Oz with my girl and that, too, was more than perfect!!!

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 86: Is 200 Pounds Out of My Reach?

Some of us like men with a bit of meat on their bones. If BigMan were a tiny man, I would not be so attracted to him. It's really not about the charts-it is about how you feel, healthwise and how you feel about your body, emotion wise. Are you a happy guy? Ok, would you be happier if you were 200 lbs.? Probably not, if you are a happy guy now. Carry on people--I have ended my rant.

what's good food to eat as you study?

My BigMan always swore by Mountain Dew and a Chunky.

What's for dinner tonight???

Icky ziti (not like the delicious ziti on SE with the heavy cream) in the dining hall. And yes, the alternate meal was rigatoni with red sauce. And oh yes, lunch was pasta with white sauce, pasta with red sauce or the alternate meal choice-rigatoni with pasta. The side dish was rice. Great meal planning. Tomorrow I will make something so yummy it will be a shock and awe meal--at home!!

Old Tahini?? How to tell?

Sorry Pavlov tonight is a dining hall night. Too much football, running club and field hockey on the docket. Hummus is just a snack for the BigMan before he goes off to coach. Try me tomorrow (and bet your bottom dollar that none of your main course choices will be on the menu tonight at the school dining hall!!)

What's for Dinner Tonight? The 'Come-Back-GatorPam!' Edition.

Raw Apple Cake

2 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
Break eggs over apples, fork stir. Add sugar, cinnamon, oil and nuts.
Sift flour, soda and salt. Add to first mix.
13x9 pan buttered and floured (I just pam mine)
55 minutes at 350 degrees

It was my husband's grandmothers recipe-he LOVES it. I think it's not chocolate.

I have to attend sit-down tonight but I can't decide whether to make my people the good soup that was featured today or stacked enchilaladas...with raw apple cake for dessert.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will sneak it in and see if they notice.

Do the anchovies make it deliciously salty or a tad fishy? I am wondering if I could sneak them by my people?

Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

Better Homes and Gardens Junior Cookbook. I loved to make the Tutti-Frutti Ice Sparkle and the Baked Apples. My mother, the 70's mom who made lots of TaterTot Casseroles with the "secret" ingredient of cream of chicken soup, did not let us cook much.
I still can't use a knife and really did not do much cooking till about 10 years ago. I have to use a cookbook to pretty much cook ANYTHING. A few years ago my husband said if I spend as much time actually cooking as I did reading cookbooks we would be big as houses.
Still love to read the Junior Cookbook...going to yell up to my daughter to see if she wants to make some Chocolate Peppermint Delicious.
