What's the best cheap mexican restaurant in Manhattan?

Anyone know a good place between 14th and Canal? (And please don't say Pinche, which is really overrated)

New Shake Shack Slated for Nolita

Glad I don't own Soho Park and their crappy overpriced burgers.

My Pizza Oven: Mark Graban, Fort Worth, Texas

As an architect, I feel for you with the idiocy of your 'masons'. Unfortunately, skilled labor pretty much doesn't exit anymore, much less an actual mason. So, when you try to make something that is true old world construction like a stone oven, they're totally lost and set things on fire. That's pretty much every day of my life.
Pizza looks good.

Raising the Bar: Ignoring the Church Bells at Zum Schneider

Oh hell yeah!

But: what's with not eating the casing? That's the best part!

The Crab Pot: One Crab

That's a weird looking crab! Definitely not a blue. Apparently it's a Liocarcinus vernalis (?)- anyone know the vernacular name for it or seen ones like them off Long Island? According to Wikipedia
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Liocarcinus_vernalis.jpg ) they are native to Belgium!

And I second kitchengeeking: got to catch them with chicken necks and string- followed by the Old Bay and beer

Obituary: Sal, of Upper West Side Favorite Sal and Carmine's, Dies

Oh no! Sal (Carmine, too!) was such a nice man- it took a while, but once he recognized you he always had a friendly story or a wave when you passed by the store. He will be greatly missed. And I've always said that Sal & Carmine's is the quintessential New York pizza. Not fancy, not gourmet, but pure greatness. Sal & Carmine's is and always will be the best in NY. RIP Sal!

Grilling: Basic Barbecue Sauce

I really think the best bbq sauce I've made is from the Barefoot Contessa. Not the first person I would have looked for with a BBQ sauce, but it's great. A bit expensive with a lot of ingredients, but it's really great. Sweet with honey and hoisin- best for bbq'ed chicken:

1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onion (1 large onion)
1 tablespoon minced garlic (3 cloves)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup tomato paste (10 ounces)
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup honey
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 cup Dijon mustard
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 cup hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes

Where to buy Live Blue Crabs?

Wow- thanks for all the tips, guys! I work down the street from Chinatown and I've looked into getting them down there but never followed through. Usually get an odd look when you say that you need 6 dozen. Maybe this will be the year. Lindy's sounds great too!
I second the Hadfield's recommendation- always my go-to stop when I'm passing through! And thanks Scarletini- I'm probably out of range, but good luck with the crabbing!

Sugar Rush: Galette des Rois (Kings' Cake) from Ceci-Cela Patisserie

That's great and all, but the consistent and grating obnoxious-ness of the staff at this place makes buying anything there strictly prohibitive. This used to be my go-to morning coffee stop, but I finally had enough. And Balthazar Bakery is a block away.
Why some twentysomething clown who makes coffee all day thinks they are entitled to any kind of attitude is beyond me.

Still my favorite burger. Big. Perfect bun. Fresh bacon. Comes with onion rings for tossing on top. No designer meat.
