Raising the Bar: Finding Venice in Chinatown at Bacaro

@gargupie - I haven't tried making it at home yet, but I found a great recipe for squid ink risotto online. Batali can do no wrong in my book. Let me know if you ever try it.

@sherrypie - You didn't like the Spaghetti Nero?! Sorry to hear that. So sorry, because I would have come right over and finished your pasta. ;) Glad you liked the rice balls at least.

Raising the Bar: Satisfyingly Gut-Busting Fare at One and One

@BobbieAnne - Sounds piggyriffic for at least a few minutes.

@Gold123 - Crisp and soft on the inside, now that's what I like. What's your favorite fish & chip shop in NY and England?

Raising the Bar: Satisfyingly Gut-Busting Fare at One and One

@alicemeichi - LOL! Yeah, I assumed that was a preference. I wonder if the french fries in McDonald's are crunchy in London.

@ChelseaGuy52 - You're lucky. My apt is tiny and has no ventilation, so frying anything, especially fish, is banned in my apt. I tried once and the place smelled like fish for 2 week. Ugh.

Raising the Bar: Satisfyingly Gut-Busting Fare at One and One

@StephanieL - That's pretty sad, unless they're into that kind of thing.

Raising the Bar: Devilishly Good Eggs at Pegu Club

@hondo3777 - Thanks for the rec! Never even thought to look for deviled eggs there.

@formz - Sadly it was, and it was even more of a rip because it wasn't good so I left one behind. And I NEVER not finish everything off my plate!

@Carey - My stomach is at the disposal of serious eaters everywhere!

Raising the Bar: "The Sandwich of the Decade" at El Quinto Pino

@momo - Yeah, it's a recession, but it doesn't mean you can't treat yourself to a uni sandwich once in a while at a tapas place. Sometimes you don't want to eat at home. If you don't like it, you don't have to go. It's as simple as that.

From Serious Eats: New York

Raising the Bar: "The Sandwich of the Decade" at El Quinto Pino

@momo - $15 is a lot of money, but fresh uni is expensive. One piece of uni sashimi is $4 at a cheap place. Also, there was more than a "schmear" of sea urchin. There were gobs of it inside.

Raising the Bar: "The Sandwich of the Decade" at El Quinto Pino

@sloppy - I should probably ignore your comment, but I have to admit, I thought it looked obscene when I got it. Glad to know it's not just me.

Raising the Bar: "The Sandwich of the Decade" at El Quinto Pino

@kristin314 - How could you forget about the uni panini? That sandwich haunts my every waking moment. For now at least. ;)

@infomofo - Find me a better sandwich and I will eat it. I'm always open to suggestions. And yes, I agree, their menu is limited and it doesn't seem too many items have changed since they opened. A refresh would be interesting, as long as the uni panini doesn't go anywhere.

Raising the Bar: Ignoring the Church Bells at Zum Schneider

@yetidesign - Yup, they open at 1pm on Sat & Sun. So if you want, plenty of time to go to church beforehand. ;)

Raising the Bar: A Different Kind of Burger at Clover Club

@bkbella - Oh lord, bad hubby.

@gaffer - I know what you mean about cheese overwhelming a burger. A lot of people like Roquefort on hamburgers, but I find it way too strong for most hamburgers. The chèvre on the burger at Clover was good because it wasn't too heavy. However, if you ever to do go, I'm sure you can ask for the goat cheese on the side.

Raising the Bar: A Different Kind of Burger at Clover Club

@pickle - Oooh, they have a lamb merguez burger. Interesting.

@cg_ups - Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately these days, a $10 dollar cocktail at a decent bar is about average. At Rose Bar, the drinks start at $19! It's only for that reason I haven't gone yet. I mean, I can eat two burgers with that kind of money!

@gaffer - What about a lamb burger with feta? That could be nice too.

Raising the Bar: A Different Kind of Burger at Clover Club

@Burger365 - mmm, I'd eat that again!

@bkbella - I love divey bars too, but it's nice to treat yourself to a nice cocktail once in a while. As for free drink and crisps, being married may hurt your chances with the men. Perhaps your hubby may be interested in a date! ;)

Off the Beaten Path: Naeng Myun at Han Song Ting’s New Digs

I'm not sure about wheat flour for neng myun, since neng myun has to be chewy, but I'll give it a shot.

Nothing is as sexy as a chocolate tennis racket... except maybe a chocolate tie.

Sugar Rush: Kang Suh's Sikhye

In Flushing and NJ, they always sell sikhae at dduk and banchan shops, but again, my mom always makes it when we have company so we never buy it. Sometimes, if you buy a lot of stuff, they give you a quart of it for free. In Manhattan, you can get canned versions at Hmart. They have it in the beverage section. It's not bad. Can't believe they actually sell it though at Kang Suh. A lot of restaurants give it to you for free at the end of the meal, either sikhae or the cinnamon drink (soojunggwa). Crazy.

Recommendations in Koreatown and Curry Hill?

@roboppy - There's a ton of places in NJ, specifically Pal Park, to get sujebi and kalgooksoo, but not so much in Manhattan. So usually I just make it at home. It's easy and cheap to make.

Raising the Bar: Ignoring the Church Bells at Zum Schneider

@SmokedMeat - Usually I like the casings on sausages, but the weisswurst casing is really thick and rubbery. You'd be chewing for a long long time. I hear some people cut each end and then suck the innards out. A little too graphic for me. I cut and roll out the sausage.

From Talk

Recommendations in Koreatown and Curry Hill?

@engmcmuffin - BCD is now where Dae Dong used to be. I wish Dae Dong stuck around cuz their neng myun was good, but I'm glad we have a BCD now. If only we could have both.

From Talk

Recommendations in Koreatown and Curry Hill?

In Ktown, Gahm Mi Oak for sullongtang, Mad for Chicken (formerly Bon Chon) for Korean chicken, BCD for tofu soup, and Hyo Dong Gak for jjajangmyun.

In Curry Hill, go to Saravana Bhavan for dosas.

Off the Beaten Path: Taking One for the Team at LQQM Kung Fu Bing in Chinatown

Damn, look at all the people outside. You would think it was good, but then again there's always a crowd in front of the McDonald's in Times Square.

From Serious Eats

Standing Room Only: La Esquina Del Sabor

The fried pork looks amazing. Fried pork and lamb fat is always good. I always get annoyed when I see people cutting away all the delicious crispy fat when they eat.

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'
