Your Fast Food Urge.....just had mine...tasty.
Mmm...nothing better right now than mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC
Book Club Food - Potato Peel Pie
@lemonfair: I agree with you, it's too much under-rated and it's one of my favorite comfort foods. I use a nice chicken stock to add some flavor to it, without adding more butter than really necessary, if you want to make is healthier than normal. Also, leave the skins on! That's the best part! :)
Iron Chef Party
What about figs? They are really tasty and can be savory or sweet, paired with a lot of different things and are definitely not the normal ingredient - would be more Iron Chef than say....corn or something. :)

Weekend Cook and Tell: Pancakes
Do pannekoeken count? Those are fantastic! Not that I don't adore (and devour) "regular" pancakes on a fairly regulara basis, but why not try both! :)

What's Up With All These One Word Answer Postings?
I think that it's fun. SE has a ncie mix of the serious and the not-so-serious. And frankly, sometimes I don't have the time or the energy or even the input to add much more than a word or two. If you don't care for that type of thread, ignore it and move on to another one that moves you. Those are my two cents, at least.
One word answer only, please...Coke or Pepsi?
Diet Vanilla Coke - oh wait, they stopped making that. :(
Entenmann's cake? In Recipes? Seriously?
Wow. Apparently, I am the only here who has never even tried Entenmann's or Sara Lee cakes/baked goods. I grew up with just homemade stuff (my mother would never have let that stuff in the house - she liked to bake for us instead), so I never had the chance to try things like that. I like the fact that SE brings to light something like that to those of us who may never have had it, and would just like to try something totally different from what we are used to and like. You never know, After years of homemade cookies, I discovered a real affinity for Oreos, so stranger things can happen....
Does anyone carry their own condiments around?
I don't generally, but I certainly wouldn't think that you were weird for doing so. When I travel, I go to the grocery stores, and I love to try their mustards (full disclosure: I am a mustard addict) and often buy a jar and have it in my hotel room to put on random things, like fresh veggies from the local market. :) Now, that might be weird.
What's for Dinner? 08/26
Hot dogs - it is still summer, after all!
IDEAS? quick, CHEAP, healthy item for a lunch potluck
Have you thought of a veggie pizza? Just buy a pizza crust/mix and put it in a jelly roll pan, ideally, and spread cream cheese on top and then chop some fresh veggies (olives, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini...) on top! Easy! :)
Otherwise, gazpacho is really easy. Basically, you just put all of the ingredients (they vary, but usually include olive oil, tomatoes, peppers, bread...) in a blender, turn it on, and let it do it's work. Chill it and there you go!
Donut shops in Twin Cities
FYI: Dunkin Donuts is also opening up roughly 20 stores in the Twin Cities over the next year. :)
How much do you love cereal?
Okay, let's put it this way: I love cereal so much that when I moved overseas for a few years and found out - much to my dismay - that they did not produce plain, yellow-box Cheerios there (my absolutel favorite hands down), my dear, loving father slow-boated me six boxes at a time (which actually cost more than the boxes themselves by a couple of times) and I rationed them out to myself (one bowl a day - no more), so that they would last.
What is YOUR Kellogs Cornflake Fantasy?
I am a sucker for the snack combo of either corn flakes or Cheerios (yellow box version or Honey Nut only and only plain corn flakes) with mini marshmallows and dark chocolate chips. Snack, though, not breakfast or meal of any kind. :)
Donut shops in Twin Cities
Definitely Mel-O-Glaze! That is the best one that i have found. If you need a quick fix, Byerly's and Lund's grocery stores have decent ones, though they go quickly.
Cook the Book: 'Bite-Size Desserts'
For me, if it's bite-sized, nothing beats a really nice, pure, decadent, dark chocolate truffle - preferrably with a raspberry or Bailey's filling.
I just CAN't do it!
Cans, tins, pouches...it's all fair game for me!
What Would Brian Boitano Make? Seriously?
Instead of all cake shows, all the time, what about all Alton Brown, all night? I would sign up for that add least!
What Would Brian Boitano Make? Seriously?
Bring back Gale Gand!!!! And the rest of the originals of the Food Network that relaly made me want to cook! The newer shows just make me want to reheat something in the microwave and call it a day. :(
The Sometimes Fabulous food of the young and Broke
I think that I lost count of how many peanut butter (couldn't even afford the jam/jelly or honey) sandwiches that I have eaten...or the number of eggs that I have made (poached, scrambled, omelette-style...), oatmeal, popcorn, and canned (because even frozen veggies were too expensive for me) veggies...animal crackers, Kraft dinner....ah, the memories. :)
Have you lost your Food Mojo?
I am currently on strike, actually. I love to bake, and I generally do it all the time, but a couple of weeks ago I just basically got completely fed up with the fact that no one at work appreciates it anymore. It's expensive, I do it a lot, and I even cater to various requests....but does anyone say thank you? Or anything like that? Nope. The come and grab the food and leave. Crumbs everywhere, never thank me, tip me, nothing. Some of them have now even gone so far as to demand that I make more, even on busy weeknights when I have other things to do. They come over when I am out of things and ask me why I didn't have any left or why I didn't tell them specifically that there weren't many left earlier, so that they could come over to get some.
Okay, I am whining, but essentially I am just upset with it all and fed up with spending all of my time baking for people that either don't care, demand it or don't even thank me. It isn't fun anymore. I am supposed to bake all of my entries for the State Fair coming up before I leave for China for a couple of weeks, but I don't even feel like doing that much, I am so upset. I need some inspiration to get me going again in the kitchen, that's for sure.
What would be your last beer?
I am Irish (well, okay and German and Norwegian) and lived in Ireland - Guinness....from the brewery itself...in a pint glass....with a nice full head. :) And don't forget the spoon!
lunch box lunches for 5 yr. old
Well, in case the school has a rule against it, I woudl avoid peanut butter, but if he isn't picky, perhaps almond butter and jelly snadwiches. Almonds are really healthy and the almond butter is just as tasty, if you ask me. Or add honey, instead of jelly.
I am also a huge fan of chopped veggies and a dip, if you have an insulated bag which will keep it cold (extra crunch that way).
Hummus is good either as a dip or on a bagel with some veggies and maybe some natural (i.e. no nitrate/nitrite) meats (Hormel has some that I really like).
Whole-wheat crackers with a little cheese and some cold cuts work well...at least for me sometimes, with some grapes maybe.
What do you go "out" for?
It is my firm belief, after a few attempts at home, that sushi - at least for me - is best left to the experts. As are fresh spring rolls and souffles.
Ally Sheedy's Breakfast Club Sandwich
I always preferred Molly Ringwald's lunch :)
Favorite foods eaten at the 'wrong' temperatures?
Oh, and I forgot! I *love* cookies, cake, candy bars and other simliar things right from the freezer! There is just nothing like a frozen chocolate chip cookie, I tell ya!
