New York French Fry Honor Roll: Add Yours to the List

I'll second the fries at Beppe. You can get them in the dining room, too (I think they refer to them as "Tuscan Fries").

Cook the Book: 'Southern Belly'

The meatloaf at Jestine's Kitchen in Charleston, SC is a wonder to behold. Everything else there is great too, but that meatloaf is in a class by itself.

Cook the Book: 'Prime Time Grilling'

Fire extinguisher. Doesn't have to even work. I just feel better about pouring beer straight onto the chicken if I know it's there.

Cook the Book: 'Eat This!'

The Summerton Diner in Summerton, SC. When my wife and I were there at closing time last year, they gave us a giant sack of biscuts on the way out the door so they wouldn't go to waste!

Cook the Book: 'Cucina del Sole'

Since it's so hot, i'm going with granita . . .ask me again in a few months, and I'm sure i'd come up with a nice, heavy pasta dish, but right now a big coffee granita would hit the spot!

Snapshots from Asia: Coffee to Go

I was in Singapore a few years ago, and the first time I saw this, it blew my mind. Yes, you do punch the straw through the bag, Capri-Sun style; many of the vendors will do this for you, or tie the bag around the straw. The bag is much squishier than a Capri-Sun pouch, so it takes some getting used to since you are essentially drinking out of a water balloon. And it was also always really, really good and really really cheap.

Cook the Book: Taming the Flame

One of those "BBQ Boxes" in Central Park that you have to scramble for because there are only so many.

Cook the Book: 'What's a Cook To Do?' Giveaway

Rolling lemons or limes back and forth on the countertop, with your palm on top of them, pressing down, for about 30 seconds. You'll get a lot more juice out of them this way.

Question of the Day: What's the best food song?

Since De La already got a shout out, I'll have to go with Cab Calloway's "Everybody Eats When They Come To My House"

'On Top of Spaghetti' Book Giveaway

i could eat nothing but pasta for the rest of my life and never get bored; but if i had to pick just one: fettuccine alfredo with fresh pasta and a nice big hunk of parmesan, cut fresh from the wheel.

The 'Pig Heaven Honor Roll'

Great list! But, no love for the Thorne's "Serious Pig"? I know only one chapter of the book is about pork, but what a chapter! (not that I have any fault with Mr. Trillin and Mr. Steingarten!)
