Best Hamburger Joint Motto Ever
It's about time you get Blake's on here! They do make great burgers, which they start cooking when you order them. They wrap them in paper secured with a toothpick, and give you ketchup that they package themselves in little plastic cups (no "packets" there). And to top it all, I live 2 blocks from one. :)

Cook the Book: 'Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics'
Gazpacho; what could be simpler than a soup you don't cook. Instead of using a blender, I mince all of the vegetables by hand, which gives it a really unique texture.
Hazards of Eating Wild Game Shot with Lead Bullets
This sounds like the result of hunters not taking good shots, and then keeping and eating damaged meat from around the wound. Lead is not going to magically disperse through the animal because of one bullet, and modern, jacketed bullets are designed to retain as much mass as possible (i.e. stay in one piece). If you shoot a deer in the vitals, there is no way that meat from, say, the hind-quarters is going to have any lead content. This stinks of a lousy study, an anti-hunting agenda, or both.

Goes bad to early: Marsala/Vermouth.
Bullet-Shape Ice Cube Tray Makes AK-47 Ice Ammo
I second F.I.B.'s comment - how do I get my own bullet ice cubes to look so nice?
'Top Chef': Down and Dirty
Dale was critical of the bacon, but my recollection is that he cut up a bunch of peppers and tossed them with a little acid. Was that really that much harder?
I was also surprised that the air team (aka Team "Ducks Fly") didn't do a foam. Of all the times when a foam is appropriate, this was it.
Spumoni: Love It or Leave It?
JeffsInTheKitchen-
I mean outside of the NYC area... heck, in Brooklyn, the Jews and Italians live next door to each other, right? But ask someone here in New Mexico (or even in upstate NY) about spumoni and see what they say...
Spumoni: Love It or Leave It?
Yes, real spumoni is great... it doesn't seem to be something that non-Italians know much about. And L&B's is awesome all around... my father-in-law moved upstate from Brooklyn decades ago, and he has made it a Steingarten-esq mission to recreate the pizza in his house. He's gotten pretty close by buying a par-cooked sicilian crust from a local pizzeria, and then adding sauce and cheese to match L&B's.
Organic Brands and Who Owns What
Good tends to have these interesting charts on various subjects, with no supporting information. The intention, I believe, is to show you something interesting and let you draw your own conclusions. For instance, in the same issue they had a bar chart showing the number of troops participating in every major US conflict, and what percentage that number was of the US population. Very interesting stuff (I think WWII was close to 10%), but they didn't have any other information along with the chart.

"Eat More Fortune Cookies", and yeah, I've had a few more since. :)
Iron Cheffing and Judging Are Legit (If Imperfect)
This is sort of interesting - it was one of the videos related to the Gawker "pea-nis" video:

GMOs Slipping Through the Cracks
(I think the comments of anyone without a background in biology - myself included - should be taken with a grain of salt, because it is all second-hand information.)
I am not particularly worried about the effects of genetically modified plants on my body, especially when the added genetic material is from another food plant (and potentially from another consumed animal - I question how much actual risk there is, vs. an "ick" factor). Of course, just like some of the hybrid vegetables that those with home gardens can buy, the taste, texture, etc may suffer. How do we weigh the desire for a tasty, pleasurable crop with the need for a crop that may be bland, but can withstand disease and drought and bring food to thousands in need?
What is worrying to me (although, see my first comment) is what effect these plants might have on the ecosystem - will they be susceptible to new diseases, insects, etc? Will they cross pollinate with another plant and cause an unintentional effect on that plant's population?
Put a Fork in Season Three, It's Done
Fillippelli, it was definitely the duck that got the 3 star remark.
Harold, the score was 2 to Dale, 1 to Hung (the duck), and 1 to Casey (I believe the scallop/foie) - they thought that Hung's fish & chips needed more acid, and gave the first course to Casey.
I was rooting for Dale, but as my wife pointed out, Hung was more consistently good than Dale throughout the season (and even if they were safer, none of his dishes last night bombed).
Photo of the Day: Best Sandwich in the World
There is a Vietnamese place here in Albuquerque - Cafe Trang - that makes the best sandwiches I've ever had. They look very similar to that one, with headcheese, etc. (A good grilled Rueben is up there too, but really doesn't fit in the same category.)
To Canvas Bag or Not to Canvas Bag
Trader Joe's has the cheapest canvas bags around here (Albuquerque). Wild Oats wants $8 a pop (!) for thiers. I keep some plastic pags in my canvas bag and in my truck, so I always have spares, either for extra groceries or because I forgot to bring the canvas out to the truck.
'Top Chef' Season Three: Season Premiere
I sort of agree with EatWisconsin - if you go to the website to look at the recipe for Tre's Surf & Turf dish, it's wild - the number and combination of ingredients that he used to win the cook-off is nuts. But from just watching the show, you'd never know that - just that he used a game spice on the ostrich.
