Eating Fruit for Dinner

Can you have yogurt in a fruit salad? Just add plain low fat yogurt and a tablespoon of honey. Delicious.

Paying for someone else's party?

no, no, no! This same thing happened to me a number of years ago. My husband and I went to the party. It wasn't the $$$.. If someone doesn't want to pay for a party they should not invite others to do it for them.

P.S. Potluck at the office usually is: the women bring the food, drinks, etc., and the men "forget" "don't have time" but eat their share and more. Sorry, but that is how it goes.

"Bring your own dish" wedding - what to bring?

I must be "old school" but I think a potluck wedding is strange...if this is the only way they can have a wedding reception it might be better to have the marriage ceremony and hold off on the reception until the time comes when they are able to host a party. When we married our budget allowed us to have a reception for 16 people and that's what we did and 38 years later, I'm happy we worked within our budget.

But as to your question, you are doing more that your share. Enjoy!

Cook the Book: 'Endangered Recipes' by Lari Robling

At grandma's, sitting at the "children's table" New Year's Day....two big turkeys and all the fixings. The adults ate in the dining room and the children at the kitchen table....we ate first and felt very special. At home, we had a "homemade" dinner every night, lots of casseroles since we were five children. Desert only on Sundays, my mother made the best pie crust and in the summer she made blueberry cobbler from the berries we picked.

What to do for dinner...

My suggestion: butter & sage sauce..so easy and delicious. I think the sage would go very well with the sausage.
4 tbsp butter
10-15 fresh sage leaves
1 tbsp fresh lemon, or more to taste
On med-low heat brown butter. Add the sage leaves, cook until crispsy.
Add lemon.
Freshly ground pepper. Salt to taste.
Parmesan cheese (optional).
That's it. Enjoy

Sugar on Snow: Maple Syrup on Snow Snack in Vermont

I grew up in New England...French Canadian descent. We called this "tiere" (sp?) which means to pull. We would fill a brownie size pan with snow, pat the snow down firmly. My mother would heat the maple syrup and pour it on the snow. It is like caramel candy but lots better....we would eat it warm because it really gets hard when it cools. We never had that problem, we were five children

Passover pasta rules?

In the early 70s a friend gave me a cookbook from a Jewish woman's group in Garden City, Long Island. Here are some of the dishes in the Passover category: MatzoBall, Matzo Dumplings, Matzo Apple Pudding, Liver and Potato Blintzes, Potato Kugel, Potato Knishes, Matzo Apple Kugel, Matzo Meal Latkes & Pancakes, Tzimmes without meat, Sponge Cake with Honey, Jelly Roll, Lemon Pie , Nut Torte, Eight Egg Sponge Cake, Almond Cookies, Almond Macaroons, Cream Puffs, Custard Filling, Brownies, Stuffed Veal Brisket.

Many of the recipes use "cake meal" and "matzo meal" for the deserts and "potato starch" for thickener. If you want the recipe for any of the above, let me know. Most are simple with few ingredients

I have used many of the recipes in the book but I haven't tried any of the above..

Meat Lite: Moderately Meaty Cassoulet

@cjMcD thanks for the link...
This recipe looks good (sans kielbasa) I haven't decided what I will use to replace the kielbasa. The recipe looks time consuming. I hope my family doesn't say "oh, beans".

You live where?

Albuquerque, NM, by way of Miami, FL. Culture shock, but after 3 years we are adjusting. Miss the Cuban restaurants and coffee.

Rome and Barcelona

I don't have advise on where to eat but I do want to warn you to be very careful with your valuables in both of these cities...especially in Barcelona.
Thieves of all ages. A money belt (not a fanny pack) is perfect. We ate at small restaurants with no advance planning and enjoyed the food. Have a great trip.

Subway or Quizno's?

I agree with @Lorenzo. A sandwich shop with really good breads and fresh top of the line ingredients and good coffee can't loose. The best here in Albuquerque are "Relish", and "The Grove Cafe" locally owned and run. The sides potato salad, mac salad, greens, etc. made on the premises daily. No franchise fees and limitations. And they are both very successful. Good luck in whatever you choose to do!

West Palm Beach suggestions?

Chuck & Harolds in Palm Beach...good food, good price, good people watching...also in Palm Beach, the bar in The Breakers overlooking the ocean.....take time to walk through the lobby and ground floor sitting areas..The Breakers has a great Sunday brunch. Brunch was included in the "special" weekend rate so I don't know the price. We enjoyed all our meals here.
