Visiting supermarkets when traveling - doesn't everyone?

YES there is nothing better. I think I got this love of international grocery stores from my mom. Its one of the ways to truly understand a country. All the hanging jamon in Spain- drool! Local produce always excites me as well.

Hey Ed, how was Pizza Suprema?

I love Pizza Suprema. D'aiutos is all about the cheesecake, though I recently had some amazing rainbow cookies that were freshly baked. That corner holds all the classic american staples: pizza, cheesecake, hot dog venders, and burgers and fries (from the Burger Shack)

Dinner Tonight: Miso Soup with Grilled Eggplant and Mushrooms

Sounds good! I am addicted to making miso with shrimp stock. I buy cheap, fresh shrimp from the Asian grocers in Queens and boil them with old bay seasoning. Then I throw their shells back in the water they boiled in, reduce it, throw in the miso paste, some of the cooked shrimp, rice noodles, spinach, and maybe some sesame oil. I have had this for a few of my lunches this week.

Ethical Dilemma: Blogging about bugs

@bareneed- I highly doubt I have even close to enough readers to influence the future of the place, but the principle of the matter just got me thinking. I can never eat at this place again, which is sad because the food is so amazing. But I think had this not happened I would maybe not want to know if someone else experienced it, so I could continue eating worry free.

We speculate it was a roach that maybe got into the rice cooker, but we can't be sure...Its true that its a good sign that at least the chef, owner, wait staff were upset by the situation. I hope it was a freak event. I think I'll keep up my older post and leave it as it. Its not the cleanest of places, I have no idea what the kitchen looks like- the restaurant is in a basement and I think the kitchen is above it. The bathrooms are pretty gross. But that comes with the territory when eating adventurously in Queens. Don't you think?
