Post your profession...

30 yr-old banker in NYC. I love to cook and eat but can't always find for cooking. Luckily, my husband loves to cook as well and is a fantastic cook. So for now, I'm sticking with eating! We love to travel and trying new ingredients or cuisines.

My accomplishments are homemade ice cream, spicy kimchee fried rice, and one pot clam bake. I would love to learn how to make pasta from scratch.

Question of the Day: What's your go-to summertime drink?

I second the Pimm's Cup. Definitey with cucumber and apple slices.

Why Wedding Food Sucks

I agree with LauraMac - people would priortize whatever is important to them in their wedding planning. Obviously, this group, the Serious Eaters, would have the food on the top of their priority list.

Having great food was very important for my husband and me. We got married in Hawaii and only had our immediate family there. We spoiled them and ourselves with five course meal. Everything was fantastic.

Once we returned, we threw a weekend-long celebration party for our closest friends and family. We also had some BBQ delivered from South Carolina for one of the nights. Some of our friends from overseas hadn't had the real BBQ until then so they really enjoyed it.

For our main event, we focused on local ingredients and simply prepared dishes. We discussed what we want wiith our caterer and her chef prior to the tasting and tweaked a few things based on the tasting. I think everything turned out great and exceeded our expectations because we were able to stay on the same page with our caterer.

I can tell you that we didn't have any flowers except for my bouquet. We had fruits on the tables as a center piece instead. They looked beautiful and were eaten later on.

Places to eat in Maui and the Big Island?

There is a small sushi bar called Kai tucked inside of the Ritz Carlton on Maui. I had the best omakase there. If your group is small enough (there were just two of us), you can definitely sit at the sushi bar and be the center of the chef's attention.

Question of the Day: What are you doing for Memorial Day Weekend?

As we get into the blue crab season in the Mid-Atlantic, I'm taking a road trip down to Maryland for some crabs!

NY recommendations: Lunch.

I know you said that there's no budget issue. I recommend any kind of ssam at Momofuku Ssam Bar in East Village. It's reasonable and cafeteria style during the day but the burritos are awesome. Too bad that you're not free for dinner. Momofuku offers great dishes for dinner.

How do you get toddlers to eat Vegetables?

SamTheButcher - it sounds like your former boss and my parents shared the same philosophy. Growing up, I knew that dinner is whatever my mom cooked for that night (thank goodness, she's a fantastic cook!). My brother, who is a very picky eater until today, and I never complained or requested any special meals. We knew that if we didn't eat whatever my mom gave us, there won't be any snack or other special meals to substitute. Perhaps this has something to do with Korean culture and how Koreans raise children, i.e. children must respect their parents and elders, etc.

Also, I think if eating veggies aren't made into a big deal, kids tend not to resist eating them. My nephew who is three eats pretty much everything. When my brother and his wife introduce new food to him, they don't make a big deal out of it (no rewarding him for trying it, etc.). And they eat it with him.

Question of the Day: What cuisine can't you stand?

Winny - any Indonesian dishes you can recommend that are likely to be on a restaurant menu? I'd like to give it another try and having some idea beforehand wouldn't hurt. I'm thinking my tast buds might have not been 'fully developed' when I was 15 yrs old.

Lenaliu - you must be refering to Kimchi, which is fermented cabbage...

Question of the Day: What cuisine can't you stand?

I second Indonesian. I spent few summers in Indonesia when I was a teenager. At least in Indonesia (never had Indonesian outside of Indonesia), it seems like they like to fry EVERYTHING. Nothing was fresh. Even if the ingredient was fresh, it would be cooked or altered so it would lose the freshness. I was told that it was because food spoils quickly due to the climate and the lack of refrigeration.

Plus, I haven't found any good Indonesian places in New York to give it another try.

Have you ever tried absinthe?

I tried it in London at my friend's flat. She travels to eastern Europe frequently for work and brings a bottle back from time to time.

It has very strong taste I didn't care for. I don't quite remember all of the details but I think this is how she prepared it. She had a spoon with sugar resting on the top of a glass. I think there was some water in the glass. She poured absinthe over the spoon and lit the spoon on fire to burn off the alcohol a bit (despite that, it still tasted too strong for me). You then stirred the spoon (absinthe and sugar mixture) in the glass. There wasn't anything that great about this that I will try again.

I'll stick with my wine and martinis.

Black Cod With Miso

My husband makes this occasionally. It is simple to make and so delicious. But, black cod is an expensive fish but I assume the marinade can be used on other fish. Is there any other items this marinade will be great with?

Favorite Duos?

Clare K - Kimchi and milk? Do you eat kimchi straight (without rice or other carb) and drink milk with it? I suppose milk would tone down the spicy kimchi but I just never heard the two put together...

From Talk

Favorite Duos?

A fantastic duo of peanut butter and nutella always puts me in a better mood.

Question of the Day: What do you eat at the ballpark?

Definitely hot dogs and beer. I've never been but I heard that the Giants (San Fran) ball park has garlic fries. The new Yankees stadium should think about having new variety of yummy eats.

From Talk

Hungry while shopping? What do you buy too much of?

Ice cream...and I end up having my dessert before a proper meal.

want to make a special seafood dinner for that special someone...would love to get some of your favorite, most delicious, uncommon seafood recipes.

While this isn't uncommon, an indoor clambake is a big hit whenever I make it. And it's an easy one pot dish...almost fool proof. All you need are any amount of fresh seafood you want (lobster, clams, shrimps, etc.), small red potatoes, onion, some herbs and a good bottle of white burgundy wine. And make sure to have some crusty baguettes to dunk into the broth!

Is Pinkberry any good? What about Yolato?

I do like Pinkberry and maybe that's because I am not looking for an ice cream substitute. I find it refreshing and tasty. I tend to stick with fruit toppings but cap 'n crunch is a treat when I want something sweet to balance out the tartness.

Apparently, there is another company/brand called Red Mango, claiming Pinkberry copied off of them.

From Talk

Ok, meat eaters...This question is for you.

Hot stone Bi Bim Bop with marinated vegetables (no egg or meat) especially on a cold day. The other has to be peanut butter and Nutella sandwich.

Question of the Day: What's your earliest food-related memory?

This is a great question. Fresh Korean-style sashimi of some sort of white fish in Busan, Korea when I was about 4 or so. I remember a man filleting a live fish and blood on the cutting board. I remember being scared but curious at the same time. A bit later, I had my first piece of sashimi - cold and firm texture, and a bit spicy from it being dipped in the chili pepper paste/sauce. I guess my parents weren't afraid to feed raw fish to a little one.

Best sushi in Northern Jersey?

I have eaten sushi at Nori many times when I lived in Caldwell. Their food is always tasty and the owners are so friendly. I would say their rolls are more of fusion dishes (I remember having rolls with mango and other not-so-usual roll ingredients) with tasty, interesting sauces on them. If someone is looking for a traditional sushi place, I wouldn't recommend this place though.

Any recommendations on an excellent brunch in Manhattan?

Since you said you don't mind traveling a bit, there's a lovely place called Deborah on Carmine street. Their food is simple yet satisfying. Their menu is New American/comfort food with a bit of Asian flavor. Some of my favorites on their brunch menu are duck confit and Deborah's shirred eggs. David, the restaurant manager, makes the best bloody mary. It's full of horseradish and comes with pearl onions and olives.
