Served: Goodbye Waiting Tables, Goodbye NYC, Goodbye Served

Good Luck Hannah, so glad to hear you found a job! I have really enjoyed your blog, hope to see you writing again soon!

Cook the Book: 'L.A.'s Original Farmers Market Cookbook'

Tiny as it may be in a grocery store parking lot in Lexington, KY my favorite farmer's market vendor is a smaller dairy farm who makes their own ice cream. I was happy to see a red velvet cake ice cream with real cake inside! So tasty!! My dad farmed for 25 years, so we love supporting our local farmers!

Served: Your Waitress Gets Reprimanded

When our early out server's shift is over they can sit at the bar and have a drink. Why should we have to change our clothes just because we worked that night. I have just as much right to sit at our bar as anyone else, and if we are patronizing the place we work that is a good sign! Hannah some people just want some attention, or are trying to get a free meal out of your restaurant...it happens!

Served: Night from Hell

I am thankful that my restaurant is small and has not yet felt the need to converted to gift cards, but we have gift certificates. The unfortunate side of this is that if a table had a $100 meal and a $50 gift certificate and $50 on their credit card I have been tipped only for the $50 on the credit card. Moral of the story, PAY ATTENTION! Also all gift card credit cards are too much trouble!

Good eats in Lexington, KY

I would like to add in a shout out for Gumbo Ya-Ya (now I want that for lunch today...) because of the awesome flavor found in their dishes that I prefer to other cajun places in town. Another great place downtown is Sawyer's, which is like a burger joint with a topping bar. The chips are awesome and you don't even have to get the fries for it to be a good meal, you can choose to sit in the area where you serve yourself, or another smaller area where you can be waited on by a server.

Served: Feverishly Looking for a Restaurant Job

I am the default hostess in our restaurant. When our tiny and adorable high school hostess can't come in for the weekend I am automatically the first option, because I hosted for 2 WEEKS when our restaurant first opened. I think it has a lot to do with how personable and friendly you are to strangers and while the money isn't great, it is a definite reflection on you...which it can't be too bad to be seen as personable and friendly right?

Served: Why Tipping Makes Everyone Uncomfortable

I commented last week and want to do so again to say that I admire you for putting your stories out there for everyone to read and judge. As a server I feel more comfortable with my manager handling such a situation but can't say enough about servers who actually care enough to make a situation right! There are too many of them out there who just don't care and are passing through to make a quick buck. Keep it up Hannah!!

Served: The Ballsy Waitress

Now I only serve at a small fine dining restaurant in Kentucky but we would never ask anyone if that is all they meant to leave and I have been left less than 10% a few times. You usually deduce that they are just cheap because they also split a beer but I would prefer sending the manager over and asking if they enjoyed everything. Then if they have a problem they can comfortably express it to someone besides the server...otherwise you just deal with it and go on!

Serious Grape: Mixing Up a Case of Wine for Spring

If you are looking for a great summer/spring patio wine then you have to try the Due Uve Sav Blanc/Pino Grigio mix, it is 50/50. Light with a rich fruity nose, you will not be disappointed. Another great zin is the 2006 Napa Zellers which has a nice peppery taste on the front and then a great jammy taste when you finish. We have these at the restaurant I work at and they are huge!

Stick With Thin Mints; The New Girl Scout Cookie Flavors Are Nothing Special

I must be the only person who absolutely loves the Dulce De Leche cookies! I bought a box for my boyfriend and ended up eating half of them. I only wish the Girl Scouts would reappear so I can buy more this year!

From Serious Eats

Served: On Dishing

I was introduced to my now boyfriend by his brother and he didn't want to have anything to do with me, so I approached him shortly after the introduction and introduced myself again and we ended up chatting for a long time....and here we are over a year and a half later. Its all dependent on the guy, go after what you want and if its right it will happen. Great column Hannah!
