Di Fara Raising Slice Prices to $5; Will Close Tuesdays in Addition to Mondays

@Pizzablogger Don't get me wrong. More power to Dom for making the best of his modest enterprise. It's, after all, what makes America and, more so, Brooklyn great. Di Fara's is on my bucket list none the less.

@Paulie Gee: I stand corrected but I'm still heading to Midwood.

Is It a 'Plain' Slice, a 'Regular' Slice, or Something Else Entirely?

I had a pizza party recently and had one diner ask for no cheese due to her being lactose intolerant/vegan. So, I ordered an entire pie w/o cheese but with 'shrooms and peppers. I've come to realize she and others with her dietary requirements don't have the luxury of a slice, plain nor otherwise unless specifically ordered. Are there pizza parlors that offer slices w/o cheese in the city?

I have yet tried Di Fara's, but you bet he'll get what he's asking for. Now that the G train is going to his neighborhood, crowds are gonna get stiffer. He's making bank. I'll stick with Nick's in Forest Hills.

Is Street Food the New Bacon?

As Papa Hemingway said of Paris, could be said of NYC and SoCal. It's always "A Movable Feast" with the help of twitter.

Off the Beaten Path: Java Village, an Indonesian Epiphany in Elmhurst

Not really off the beaten path but rather off the Grand Ave station. The really neat part is is open 'til 1am. Most meals under 6 bucks. Delivery available. If only they @twitter'd.

Indonesian ingredients?

You also can go to Topline grocery on Broadway in Elmhurst. Take the R,V,G to the Elmhurst Ave stop go leave the station on the north side and your there! Plenty of provisions and, if your peckish, you can vist the restaurants Minangasli or Mie Jakarta on Whitney Ave. a few blocks south near the LIRR.

The price of rice - not so nice!

Get used to the "new normal". While increased affluence is rising in India, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and even in Sub-Saharan Africa leading to increased consumption, we'll see price spikes in not only rice but also cooking oils, ie canola, peanut, etc. as well as increased energy costs in production and transportation. As farms of yesteryears here in the US made way for suburban development are now mired in the sub-prime mortgage crisis, our government is flat-footed in the race to create the second "green revolution" lest they lead us to a near perfect storm of the future. Watch SOYLENT GREEN and prepare.

Why Can't You Get a Good Slice Outside New York City? 'Wired' Magazine Says It's the Water

My, my...it takes more than H2O to make good pizza. It's takes the embodiment of beliefs and soul to create magic and mozarella. The alchemy of alimentary proportions. IMHO, it boils down to these simple rules - high turnover = more production by the pizza man, seasoned ovens = better flavor and product, and lastly, NYC Dept of Health codes = everyones' on their toes, including Mr. D of Midwood. Guess who's favorite dishes are these inspectors lingering over?
