Cook the Book: 'Southern Belly'

Big Ed's in Raleigh,NC. it's about as southern as it gets. though Big Ed himself is no longer running the place the food remains the same...GOOD EATS. the country ham, grits and red eye gravy are my favorite but the lunches are fine too. fried chicken, bbq chicken, chicken pastry can't be beat. it's crowded on saturday morning so get there early..enjoy the bluegrass band outside.

Waiter Wind Sprints: Has This Ever Happened to You?

having been a waiter at points in my restaurant career..sometimes the chef will 86 an item and have just one waiter or waitress sell the last remaining item or items. therefore it is not always necessary for the waitstaff to rush back to the kitchen.

We're Giving Away a Truly Great Steak This Weekend

I too enjoy Bern's!! I chose a classic ceasar salad to start and then always have a bone-in ribeye..rare. The whole atmosphere is to die for..the service , the food and their fantastic wine list and of course the red walls!

Metal lunchboxes pack plenty of nostalgia...

i only had brown paper bags for my lunches when i went to school. years later while working 12 hours a day as a part time postal clerk i made up for lost time with a 'snoopy' lunchbox..finally. i'd pack mine with gourmet meals to enjoy on my 30 minute lunchbreak and a nice white wine in the thermos! it made the hellish job so much easier to take.

Cook the Book: 'The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook'

my mother cooked it every saturday morning..southern country ham with redeye gravy and stone ground grits. you have to have some buttermilk bisquits to soak up the extra gravy..eggs are optional!!

Cook the Book: 'Baking, From My Home to Yours'

i just love soft oatmeal/raisin cookies. my mother use to make them and so did my friends moms. once three of us drove cross country from NC to CA and to sustain ourselves we each had our mom bake five dozen cookies each. it was the best three weeks of our lives(up until that point!)

Cook the Book: 'The Summer Shack Cookbook' Giveaway

my favorite summer shore food is atlantic blue crabs! we lived on hilton head island,s.c. and would take our small boat up into the creeks, sit all day "fishing" for crabs with chicken necks on a string. once we had plenty we'd rush home to steam them with wine, beer and old bay seasoning- then the fest would begin! man it just don't get any better!!
