New York City Wine and Food Festival: Ticket Giveaway, 'Pulse of the Wine World'

Quattro Mani, a Montepulciano. One of the best midlevel (~$15) wines I've ever had.

New York City Wine and Food Festival: Ticket Giveaway, 'Pairing Like A Pro'

I'd go with the Chocolate Block, a South African wine. It actually has hints of chocolate flavor, which makes it like having dessert along with your steak.

My Week Without Corn, Part II: The No Corn-Fed Animal Products Edition

@ frenchtart: Because I used to live in France, and it was the closest thing on the menu to a rose. Nothing beats cool, crisp rose on a hot, humid Boston evening. And nothing goes better with fine asian cuisine than a nice Rose d'Anjou, or a Cotes de Provence. It being PF Chang's, the run-of-the-mill Beringer White Zinfandel was appropriate: American, mass-produced, corn infused. I wouldn't drink Chateauneuf du Pape with a cheesesteak, now would I?

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 75: Can (and Should) I Give Up the Flavored Liquid Habit?

Ed, I'm also a flavor junkie. I love a good sweet beverage; Cherokee Red, Orangina, POM, Iced Tea, I love it all.

But in my own efforts to trim some weight, I've been trying hard to drink water. I find that adding slices of lemon and lime really help. They make the water less boring. Adding ice helps spice things up too.

@terplinz: I was going to mention the Kosher Coke. I just learned about that today from someone in my office.

A Rediscovered Beach Burger at Surfside Beach Shack in Nantucket

@czken: I don't know if I agree. I live in Boston, and know from personal experience that Massachusetts is an expensive state, let alone Nantucket. The cafeteria in my office building charges $4.00 for a cheeseburger that doesn't look much different than that one, and we're out in the suburbs. At a certain point, you're paying for real estate and convenience. Miller Lite at the Celtics game runs you like $6. Nachos are like $9. A cheeseburger for $5 right next to the beach in Nantucket sounds like a good deal, I think. They could probably charge more and people would still pay it. What's a beer cost at a Sonics game?
