Weekend Cook and Tell: Lunch Box

I originally wanted to make a cute bento box with heart and star shaped hard boiled eggs, but my egg shapers failed me. Instead, I created a delicious lunch of food my mom cooked and sent with my brother to bring back to me. I had a lunch of stir fried shrimp with edamame beans, rice, and soy sauce egg. http://www.kirbiecravings.com/2009/09/bento-box.html

Weekend Cook and Tell: The Temporary Vegetarian

I had to go to a vegetarian potluck, so I made potato salad stuffed tofu pockets. http://www.kirbiecravings.com/2009/09/potato-salad-tofu-pockets.html
The extra ones I made were great for the lunch I packed using my new bento box.

too many bananas!

Oh yeah, or if you like blueberries, you can make blueberry banana bread too!

Here's my:blueberry banana bread recipe

And this is my go to regular banana bread recipe if you are looking for a good one. The addition of the sour cream makes it so wonderfully moist!

Banana bread is my favorite. If you want some variation, chocolate banana bread is yummy too. My recipe for chocolate banana bread is here: www.kirbiecravings.com/2009/08/chocolate-banana-nut-bread.html

I also read a seriouseats article on making banana ice cream with just frozen bananas! Apparently if you food process frozen bananas, they take on the consistency of ice cream. I haven't tried it yet, but I have bananas in the freezer waiting to make this.

Weekend Cook and Tell: Too Hot

I did a simple lunch of onigiri balls in fun shapes, a soy sauce cucumber salad and fruit served in a carved watermelon bowl. I blogged and took pictures here: http://www.kirbiecravings.com/2009/08/serious-eats-challenge.html

Taste Test: Gluten-Free, Vegan-Friendly Shirataki Noodles

I use them for asian noodle dishes as well, both the tofu kind and the regular shirataki noodles. If you have strong flavors in your dish, it is absorbed by the noodles and tastes pretty good. For those concerned about prices, try finding them at Japanese markets. They usually are about $1 at my Japanese markets.

Weekend Cook and Tell: Picnic

My brother and I invited some friends and we had a bbq out on our patio. We've been wanting to do so for a while, so this was a perfect occasion with this week's cook and tell challenge. We grilled corn, drumsticks, hot links, brats, hot dogs, italian sausages from Costco. Also made some cheese and garlic biscuits and cornbread pudding. For dessert, we had chocolate chip cookies and guava mousse cake.

Dear Whole Foods,

More dried fruit options would be nice! They stopped carrying my dried pineapple ring snacks. And better organization of the items featured on the Fearless flyer. It takes me forever to find those items.

A Berry Balanced Breakfast

This isn't so much of a healthy breakfast, as it is more of a mid-morning snack for me, but I have been using my strawberries to make strawberry mochi cake. Blueberry mochi cake works as well! You can view my recipe here: http://www.kirbiecravings.com/2009/05/strawberry-mochi-cake.html
