Grape Nuts

@Pavlov, hehe. What I meant is that they get chewy instead of rock hard ;)

if you have an ice cream machine, make ice cream. The grape nuts soften a bit and if you add some vanilla extract and real vanilla bean it's soooo good.

Spam: Better than we give it credit for?

It wasn't until I went to college in Hawaii that my love for spam emerged. As the first post indicates, the Spam Musubi is one of the greatest spam vehicles ever--it just works. Growing up in Maine, we had it as breakfast meat for egg sandwiches. English muffin, fried egg, American cheese and a griddled piece of spam. It was good, really good. Who doesn't like fatty salty pork products..? Well, except for vegetarians. :)

Brioche For Burgers?

English muffins are great with burgers! I do it all the time! They aren't a lot of bread but they are sturdy so they can hold up to the juices of the burger and the toppings. I love Thomas English muffins because they are a good size for the burger and the nooks and crannies soak everything up! Delicious :)

a little help pls?

@meatguy well, the reason why cows cause a problem is that so many people do eat them that they need to produce more to keep up with the demand. If you limit your meat intake, as well as if everyone did, then the demand for meat would decrease and there wouldn't be so many cows polluting the atmosphere with their poop patties. Same goes for pigs. Just recently where I live a pig farm needed to shut down because they had too many pigs, to keep up with the demands of the local restaurants with which they provided for, and because of the large amounts of waste coming from the pigs and not a proper way to dispose of it the drinking water was polluted and they needed to shut the farm down. Just FYI.

What about a great coffee cake, or blueberry bars...You could also have a yogurt bar. Different kinds of yogurt and toppings-- fruit, granola, stuff like that.

Funky cheeses: How'd you develop a taste for it?

Cheese can be tough. I LOVE cheese but my boyfriend thinks it's rot. "It tastes like rot." Anyways, I agree with BobbieAnne that a little bit paired well does magic for the cheese. Also, you need to work your way up like a ladder. You can't expect to like a sharp strong Stilton if you feel so-so about a mild blue...The more you can appreciate the subtle flavors of a certain genre of cheese then the stronger you go up you may learn to appreciate it more. That being said, some people just don't like stuff. I don't like yogurt, or oatmeal, wished I did, but I don't.

a little help pls?

Can we stick to the topic please? Foodiegal I'm sure doesn't want all the gruff for the almond milk, but actually is looking for something to do with it. I suggest making a milkshake, anything with a sweet application, no savory stuff. Good for you to open your horizons to new things. I, myself, am not vegan, but I am happy that you are willing to try new ideas of what food can be. Good luck!

My Breakfast of Champions – What is yours?

Peanut butter french toast. Make a peanut butter sandwich and french toast it. Top it with over medium fried eggs and dig in ;) Sometimes I put raisins in the sandwich too.

What's for Dinner? 09/02

I'm having a burger cook-off with the US burger (mine) vs. the Russian burger (my Russian art teacher). I really like English muffins as the bun as they soak up a lot of the goodness but still maintain shape. I'm making grilled sweet potatoes with a maple glaze for the side dish and she's bringing a fruit salad and her patties. Should be good!

@machellebelle How are you making it? Make sure it's equal parts flour to butter, and make sure the temp isn't too high, but brown the flour butter mixture a bit so cook out the flour taste, add the milk slowly whisking constantly until all smooth and incorporated. Continue mixing until desired thickness has occurred and continue with your recipe. This method works great for me!

The wildest food you've ever tried and will never try again

Uni, I had it twice and both times I couldn't really get it down. Some game meats, blood sausage, and the booze with a coiled snake at the bottom. Oh and some alligator, snake, durian (oh my god sick), and this half formed chicken in the egg...I ate it in Chinatown in Hawaii...Words can't express the sheer nastiness of the food item. Never EVER again.

Just to clarify...

Totally agree. I'm from Maine, and with the lobster being sweet, I believe salted butter pairs better with it. Solids and all!
