toast w/ butter and peach preserves
Irish oatmeal
a HUGE bowl of mashed potatoes w/lots of butter and salt
pasta w/ a fried egg, cracked pepper, garlic and shaved parmesian
tuna fish salad on white wonder bread
american cheese and saltines
Campbell's cream of mushroom soup
real (not microwave) popcorn w/ butter and salt

Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'

My Mom's were my favorites- small, smashed flat with a spatula, peppered and served on a bun that was placed on top of it for the last couple minutes of cooking- so the edges got a little crispy from the grease and the top got steamed.
Next to her's, I like Culver's Butterburgers- closest thing to Mom's yet.

Cook the Book: 'Seven Fires'

I adore empanadas- any and all fillings. And I had a sandwich once that a friend of mine from Argentina made. It had cheese and ham and some other stuff, but it also had a fried egg on top of the other fillings. It was amazing!

When I was in high school my Mom worked in the cafeteria and her best freind was the baker. She made the BEST brownies I've ever had. My Mom got the recipe and I still make them for my son today. They're still the best brownies I've ever had.

Strange combos

My grandfather, who was Pennsylvania Dutch (they like to have 7 sour and 7 sweet things on the table) taught me to eat sour pickles with chocolate cake. I still ear it every once in a while. And I eat macaroni and cheese sprinkled with sugar- don't know why, I just always have. And growing up, my Dad had to have bread and potatoes at every meal- so I still make spaghetti w/ meat sauce and a side of mashed potatoes and butter. So fattening, but SO good!

Every other Sunday my Mom made us a big breakfast after we walked home from church- homemade biscuits, bacon or ham, fried eggs and milk gravy. Her gravy was wonderful. My Dad taught me to cut up my eggs (with their runny yolks), break up the biscuits, tear the meat into bite size pieces and cover it all with gray. I still love to do that!
