Dinner Tonight: Fried Egg Sandwich

It's a New Jersey breakfast staple - egg and cheese on a hard roll with salt/pepper/ketchup (said like that). Pork roll is optional. Perfect breakfast. Love it.

Do You Have a Favorite Cheapish Olive Oil?

I could have used this analysis a few days ago! I went with Colavita I think. Probably not the best choice.

Am I the only one that was annoyed by the whole same-sex marriage topic by Ashley (I think that's her name)? I'm 100% pro same-sex marriage, but the challenge had nothing to do with the marriage debate. If you're a lesbian professional chef, might you not have to cook for weddings or anniversary parties once in a while? It just seemed unnecessary.

My Pizza Oven: Mark Wilkie, Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn

Too cool. I wonder what my condo association would think if I built one.

Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?

This site might be able to help, except it mostly focuses on hot dogs, steaks, and other Philly sandwiches.

How to Cope with CSA Stress

Hahaha, this is too funny. I was just telling my wife that the CSA was stressing me out. I wish salad greens would freeze well. That's my biggest challenge.

Do Biodegradable Spoons Ruin the Ice Cream Experience?

Agree with Celeriac for sure - metal is better in the end even if you factor in the water to wash them (assuming they use a biodegradable cleanser).

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

In about 1986, I met a neighborhood boy named Manab. I was 9. He was the first Indian person that I ever met. Actually, his mother was Japanese and his father was Indian. He and his brother became my best friend for a short time before they moved away. I remember that I was invited over there house for dinner only once. The only food name I could remember was "dal." I also remember a dish with hard-boiled eggs. It was all so interesting and I think it really helped start my love of Indian food and other international foods. Sadly, I googled Manab's name many years later. He sadly committed suicide.

Hot Dog Of The Week: Texas Weiners

Growing up in NJ, the Texas Wiener was a staple. I wasn't close enough to the north Jersey landmark places, but we highly enjoyed those served by The Red Tower and other places around the Plainfield area.

What Weird Family Foods Did You Grow Up Thinking Were Normal?

This may be the best comment thread ever. I am blown away by everyone's responses. Clearly, I was deprived. A couple odd things in my household were SOS (Sh!t on a shingle) and egg noodles with bacon and cottage cheese (halushka?).

Egg in Toast: What Do You Call It?

"Schulz egg" - yes it's odd. It's the last name of my great Aunt who made them for my mother a lot. We always called them that growing up and I still do.

Hoagie Haven in Princeton, NJ: Phat Ladies, Chocolate Cheesesteaks, and Happy Undergrads

I have several friends who went to Westminster Choir College so we visited here a few times. Great sandwiches. I don't think they needed to hop on the "Fat" bandwagon, but I'm sure it hasn't hurt business. My friend always got chicken parm with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Odd, but good. I remember they had trading cards for the workers. This was circa 1996. I also remember that if you didn't know your order right away, they skipped you in line.

Cook the Book: Olive Oil Citrus Cake

I made a similar cake last year for Father's Day. I think it used regular flour. It was like a better, I guess healthier, version of pound cake. Quite good and EASY!

Seriously Italian: Mint in Italian Cooking

My sis-in-law's family always puts mint in their manicotti filling. I like it.

Serious Cheese: All About Cheese Knives

My wife came with one when she moved in. It's from Pampered Chef: http://www.kaboodle.com/hi/img/c/0/0/10/7/AAAADNAoMh4AAAAAABB5sQ.jpg
It's got two sides - a serrated part and a cheese plane. It's ok. I find it hard to use on curved plates because ours has a much straighter handle than the one pictured.

What Does Your Fridge Say About You?

Mine says that I really like condiments even though I don't. We have a lot of jellies, jams, fruit butters, sauces, chutneys, etc. that have been opened and not finished.
