Served: Your Waitress Gets Reprimanded

@cary, my point was just that you can't make blanket statements about what should or should not happen in a restaurant without considering the idiosyncrasies, atmosphere (in this case extremely casual with generally great service), size and policies of the place in question.

Cassellula is tiny and i can't imagine there being space to do paperwork "back of house" without being in the way of service. Ideally it'd be nice if there was an expansive office to deal with, but the entire restaurant is one room with the "kitchen" compressed into one station behind the bar, and a cheese area compressed against the other non-dining area wall.

So Hannah made a mistake and doesn't like getting shouted at? Nobody, even people who know they're wrong, enjoys making or being called out for making a mistake. yeesh. a lot of people on here need to relax.

Served: New York Is Not the Only Place for a Restaurant

oosujioo's clearly missing hannah's point that there's a food culture (albeit a different one) existing outside of new york.

you know, it's probably because he/she read through the post to fast - oosujioo seems to be in a real hurry to get things done!

Served: Why Tipping Makes Everyone Uncomfortable

Holy crap. There is never not an exception to a rule. I think those calling Hannah rude are simply ignoring the circumstances of the situation. She was never arguing that you should go up to someone who has given a 15% tip and complain, but suggested that it's within her right as a waiter to understand why she was given a surprisingly low tip.

If only to understand why/never let it happen again - It's one thing to say that a tip should reflect service, but it's a complete cop out to refuse to stand up to your choice to tip low when you make it. Hannah asked if "everything was okay." not "why did you leave me a low tip, asshole." The latter would have been rude. The former allows a server who cares to improve for the next table, and/or brings to attention errors in calculation that the diners might have made.

Servers aren't machines, people. They're people! Treat them with the same respect that you'd treat a coworker (unless you're actually an asshole, in which case treat them better)

A Beginner's Guide to Passover Coke

Agreed, Monkeyboy. Kosher for Passover Cocke is the best Cocke of them all.

I wish it came in bigger bottles though.

Served: Reservations or Lack Thereof

@anitaepler - honestly, i don't think that would make many people happy. It'd probably end up being near impossible to secure a table, and be a logistical headache for the restaurant.

Also, it's not in the restaurant's best interest from an economic perspective. Leaving the table open to walk-ins who are happy with the place may allow for additional seatings over the course of the night.

Not every restaurant is built for reservations, and if people don't want to eat at those places...that's honestly their choice. there are tons of places that'll take your call and book you a table.
