A Guide to Cheap Snacks in Manhattan's Chinatown
@fuuchan- the lady has long since retired, she opened up shop to put her kids through college & when they all graduated (they're dr's and lawyers now) she closed. it was a very very sad day- I agree she was the best at those cakes too!
@fiestyfoodie- I agree that the cart by HKS on allen & east broadway has the best rice rolls! especially the pig skin and the tripe... makes me want to go there now! haha.
This was a great review!
Off the Beaten Path: Beyond Vietnamese Pho and Summer Rolls at Phở Bắc
the raw shrimp dish you're referring to is actually a Thai dish that's very similar to ceviche. Another vietnamese dish you should really try is the steamed crepe on the appetizer section, its filled with ground pork and mushrooms, served over lettuce & cucumbers with vietnamese ham... it's absolutely delish!

the best rainbow cookies I've had in Manhattan are hands down from La Bella Ferrara on Mulberry St btwn Canal & Hester. It's right across the street from Sambuca's Cafe. very moist, no chocolate sprinkles, and plenty of raspberry jam :)
