When Is It Socially Acceptable to Share Food?

If I'm eating with friends or my boyfriend (which is almost always who I'm eating with when I'm out), then I'll offer a taste of whatever I'm eating, ESPECIALLY if I like it. Share the wealth! I have like-minded friends, so they usually offer back - if they don't, I don't even usually notice. I may ask for a small taste if it's something I really want to try, but I'm not militantly pro- or anti-sharing.

Cook the Book: 'Bite-Size Desserts'

The dark chocolate raspberry bombe from Lazia (in Edmonton) ranks, for sure, as do the "fortune cookies" (flavoured chocolate chip cookies served with ginger-cardamom steamed milk) from the Wild Tangerine, but my all-time favourites are probably my boyfriend's mom's marmalade sqaures!

Cook the Book: '100 Best Vegetarian Recipes'

The Indonesian vegan potato and "chicken" curry from Padmanadi in Edmonton is WONDERFUL. As is basically everything else from there.

I'm also one of the only omnivores I know who voluntarily drinks soy milk and enjoys the taste. I know a tall glass of unflavoured soy milk from the Asian supermarket doesn't exactly count as a meal. But still, yum.

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

Sadly, it was at a chain generic Asian take-out place, and I had butter chicken. I still go back there sometimes to have it (because they're fast, but butter chicken is the only decent thing on the menu), but I've since branched out! Now my favourites include palak paneer, daal, and properly made butter chicken. :D

The Joys of Unnaturally Flavored Sodas

Mountain Dew, or its low-brow store brand counterpart, Mountain Breeze. YUM.

Cook the Book: 'L.A.'s Original Farmers Market Cookbook'

Mm, the Happy Camel at the Strathcona Farmer's Market in Edmonton. They make homemade pitas and dips, and I think they even have yogurt cheese, which is AMAZING.

Cook the Book: 'Modern Spice'

Probably Indian, or Vietnamese. I eat those two cuisines almost exclusively when I eat out - I think I had butter chicken, either take-out or from a restauarant, three times last week! Yikes. I'd love to learn to make it myself.
