SE'er Food Blogs

I have a food blog where I occasionally post recipes but we focus mainly on restaurant reviews.

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 11: One Fish, Two Fish, Another Bloody Fish

I think they should have sent Leah packing - you don't just throw up the white flag in this type of a situation. Instead you power through and do your best. Another reason to dump her: She's whiny.

I thought Ripert was great. And you gotta love a man with an accent...

'Top Chef' Season 5, Episode 10: 'Monkey Ass Filled with Fried Banana'

I was disappointed in the Quaker Oat challenge. The chefs were asked to use the oats in a new, creative way. What is new and creative about using the oats as breading? And several of them used that cop out. That's what I would have done. I expected more.

In Defense of Breakfast: A Morning Manifesto

very interesting observations you've made about breakfast...

Breakfast is the worst meal of the day for me because 1) I won't get up early enough to cook at home so it has to be something I can eat on the go, or reheat at work; 2) subscribing to a low-carb diet has eliminated EVERY SINGLE traditional breakfast item I used to eat (including the non-traditional chocolate cake); and 3) I hate eggs. Unless they are in the chocolate cake, of course.

I am hungry 24/7 so I always eat SOMETHING prior to 10 a.m. I end up in the boring habit category by chowing down an Atkins bar and a Diet Coke most days. Today was different: I reheated mahi mahi with a bell pepper salsa from dinner last night. Thanks goodness for dinner leftovers.

Cook the Book: 'Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics'

Cheesy Potatoes (my daughter's name for them) - a casserole made with frozen hash browns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, cheese, breadcrumbs, etc. It's a breeze to make, and if there's any leftover, great reheated.

Sweet Potato Fries -- Who Likes These Things?

Funny that you are discussing SPF - I just posted a review on Fork You Blog of a place in Rhode Island who talked me into the SPF for "a little bit more", all the while assuring me they were crispy. NOT! And a little bit more was actually an additional $2.50.

I think I would love the sweet/salty combination of the SPF if I would ever receive some that are crispy. I can even tolerate the burntness, to a degree. My belief in this notion causes me to continue to order them when I see them on a menu even though I know I will likely be disappointed.

Utz makes some wonderful sweet potato chips that are crispy and non-burnt. Maybe the nice people at Utz could share the secret and help these other folks out.

Mystic Pizza, Twenty Years After the Movie

I am in Mystic right now - been eating my way through the area. I have not been to Mystic pizza yet. Well, except to take a photo. I am disappointed to know that the movie was not filmed there but I have also been to Stonington to eat at Noah's so I suppose I was close to the "scene of the cinematic crime". I have been reviewing the restaurants I've hit on fork you blog.

Daniel, thanks for the recommendation on the Sea Swirl. I have three more days left to sample the local fare!
