Best produce ever

a nectarine from a paris open market on the airplane ride to barcelona. a fuji apple picked from my friend's tree while it was pouring rain. wild strawberries from upstate new york, taste like candy.

Dining Alone in NYC?!

all the time! a meal alone can be so luxurious and peaceful. i love eating at bars--the little owl is great if i can walk in, sushi bars, or today i had a lovely late lunch at cafe cluny which was empty around three o'clock. they gave me the window seat and i had the most amazing skate with chanterelles, leeks, and arugula. i agree with sneakeater on that there is absolutely NO stigma to eating dinner alone in this city. be bold!

Foodie gifts from Portugal?

Serra da Estrela cheese from the northern Dao region. A heavy goat cheese that you literally spoon out from the inside of the rind and spread on your baguette like you would a creamy butter, it’s probably Portugal’s most famous cheese and a true cheese lover’s holy grail. Amazing.

Best way to eat ice cream?

from the fairfax scoop (in a waffle cup, a genious and environmentally -friendly invention) or bi-rate creamery. at home in a porcelain ice cream dish with my antique silver spoon and lots of toppings...berries, macadamia nuts, homemade granola, the list goes on...with a splash of whole milk to get it melty.

what's your sure-fire beat the heat tips?

What lunch box did you have - what was in it?

some red camping one that was soft and insulated. i was envious of others' brown bags or cute tin ones. i also was one of the outcast kids, but now i realize now how lucky i was. my mother would put together the craziest lunches, always organic, of course. cheese and spinach tortellini with olive oil, cracked pepper, and parmesan cheese was my favorite, but the tupperware always leaked and my lunchbox and i smelled like delicious oil and herbs all day. she would also throw in wildcard items like giant dill pickles, banana chips, or slices of tillamook cheddar cheese. if we were good we'd get 'sundrops' for dessert: basically carob m&m's.

Sex and The City...

i cannot believe i am saying this, but to be really authentic you could eat magnolia cupcakes with your cosmos. i am not a fan of their baking, but it would be in very much in the theme of sex in the city. if i were you i would just get some cupcakes from your favorite bakery. if you want something savory and your friends have a sense of humor you could buy some penis-shaped pasta (they sell it at sex shops) and cook that up. have fun! i am in madrid so i have to wait until the end of june to see it.
