What is Your Absolute Favorite "Ethnic" Cuisine?

Mexican. Even though I love Thai I think I might tire of it.

Asparagus from Peru? In the spring??

Fascinating. One has to be careful even at the farmer's markets though - ours has started certifying those who actually sell produce grown in Michigan :-/

fennel fronds

You can substitute fennel fronds for dill in most recipes. I love to use them as a "bed" for chicken in the crock pot, or in egg salad. Yum!

Maybe It's a Little Too Cold for This?

very cute, but definitely not spending $950 on it!

Eat for Eight Bucks: Lentil Soup

I just started experimenting with lentils. They seem to get everywhere. Maybe because the strainer was too big so I had to quickly transfer them to cheesecloth. Yeah, it was that kind of day.

'Consumer Reports': Two-thirds of Fresh, Whole Broiler Chickens Contain Salmonella, Campylobacter

Yuck! Glad I get mine from a local farmer, but it's still a good reminder to make sure poultry is thoroughly cooked.

Is dating a picky eater a dealbreaker for anyone?!

When I went through my divorce, I saw a therapist who encouraged me to write down a wish list of everything I wanted in a new spouse. I realized that eating out and trying new foods was a definite plus. In fact, when I was dating, one of the first things I'd do is suggest going to an Indian restaurant! It definitely wed out some of the many fish in the sea. When I met DH it was love at first bite - he was the one who suggested the Indian restaurant on our very first date! Now, wine tasting and cooking/paired wine dinners are a huge hobby of ours and I feel a very big part of our relationship.

Only you can decide if it bothers you enough to cut him loose, although if you're already thinking about it that's not a good sign. Life is too short, and the best piece of advice I ever got while dating is "no fixer uppers!"

food containers: need to upgrade

I am actually keeping my eyes open for good deals on glass food storage containers (I'm sure there will be great deals either for Christmas or after Christmas). I use those cheapie ziploc plastic containers because they are, well, cheap and you don't feel bad giving them away or throwing them out if you forget they're in the frig and get all moldy. But I never reheat in them, luckily we have real dishes in our kitchen at work so I always transfer to a plate or bowl before sticking in the microwave.
