Teen Foodies

I'm a Philly Foodie, although a little bit older than you. To echo everyone else, there are ways to explore your love of food without having to go to restaurants. Get cooking, explore local farmer's markets, read or even write! Visit a library or used bookstore. There are a ton of fabulous books, magazines, blogs etc out there or you might even start your own blog. Take this time to learn about food and develop your own food philosophy for the day when you have your own kitchen. You might join an organization like Slow Food (http://www.slowfoodphilly.org/) or buy membership in a CSA. If all else fails, try facebook to connect with other locals.

French in a Flash: Drunken Angel Hair with Leeks and Cream

I found some giant leeks at my farmers market so I made this last night. Absolutely delicious but I live by myself so now have about a pound of leftovers. Anyone want some?

Eat for Eight Bucks: Best-Ever Salad for Leftover Meats

you should use the scallions to make scallion pancakes. all you need is flour and an egg.

Weekend Cook and Tell: Unsung Heros of the Kitchen

I featured a baba ghanouj made with a can of beans on my blog (http://worstvegetarianever.blogspot.com/2009/08/unsung-heroes.html) the beans turned my small eggplant into dip for a crowd and also replaced the relatively pricey tahini in the original recipe.

Cook the Book: 'What We Eat When We Eat Alone'

it's usually pasta. it's just so comforting and i can usually make a sauce using whatever i have so i don't have to leave the house for anything.

Blogspot or Wordpress?

I use blogspot (http://worstvegetarianever.blogspot.com/) and have found it very user friendly. My only complaint - You have to fool around with the formatting sometimes to get it to look right. I haven't put ads on mine but I think it's easy. I don't know much about wordpress, but would recommend blogspot.

Weekend Cook and Tell: Too Hot

i 2nd the panzanella idea. i also love couscous salad with fresh raw veggies. the couscous will require a minimal amount of stovetop cooking to boil the water. also, i absolutely love my convection toaster oven which fits on my countertop and doesn't heat up my small apartment. i now use my regular oven for storage.

'Julie & Julia' (& Nora)

I know it doesnt open until friday, but I checked every theater for friday showings.

'Julie & Julia' (& Nora)

Can Food Network and everyone else stop shoving this movie in my face? How can you advertise it 24 hrs a day and then not show it in a theater near me? And it's not like I live in a remote place. I live in Philly and it's not playing in a single theater in the city.

Cook the Book: '100 Best Vegetarian Recipes'

i make the best vegetarian chili. i've served it at countless cookouts or potlucks where nobody suspected a thing.

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

My first experience with "real" indian food was when I was lucky enough to attend a wedding in Mumbai. The homecooked meal the night before the wedding was one of the best meals of my life.

Any Bring-From-Home Snack Ideas?

Pretzels with hummus or salsa. Also make trail mix with your favorites like dried fruit, nuts, seeds, chocolate chips etc.Another good thing is keeping a selection of tea and other instant drinks on hand which can sometimes be just as satisfying as a snack.

The Best Thing I ever Ate ...

Can't beat the fisherman's platter at Flo's Clamshack in Middletown, RI. It is a giant mound of fried clams, scallops, calamari, shrimp, and fish over french fries and served with coleslaw. Sitting at their communal picnic tables, drinking a cold beer, and being by the beach add up to an almost magical experience.
