Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

I was given the red and white plaid Better Homes and Garden cookbook. I still use it as a reference occasionally - although it's falling apart.

Celery Greens

I use them in soups and also add them to salads. If it has a good flavor, why not?

Sneaking food into movies

My sister had a genius idea to smuggle 7-11 nachos into a theater. She made the nachos and decided to also get sodas. Not somewhat inconspicuous bottles of soda, mind you. No, she filled up two big gulps of Diet Coke. I emptied out my book bag to hold the sodas and she fit the nachos into her purse. Every step I took you could hear the ice sloshing around, and to my horror, it had leaked and was leaving a nice little trail throughout the theater. They either didn't notice or thought it was too absurd to bother with.

Saving Bacon Fat

I second the comments of @simon. Lasts forever. I keep it in little glass jars with a screw top lid.

Simple romantic food for an anniversary

I'd just make his very favorite foods and end the night with some melted chocolate and a paintbrush. But that's just me.

How do season you steak?

Fresh ground black pepper and kosher salt then after it grills I brush on a bit of melted garlic butter.

Super. Nothing makes me want to cook and eat like the thought of BMs.

Meatballs and pasta - cook the Jamie Oliver's way

Isn't this the recipe that Anthony Bourdain used which utterly unimpressed his Tuscan dinner guests? Just wondering.

Pastrami Burgers: Are They Seriously Delicious?

Mmmmm. I frequented Crown Burger in SLC for those tasty bites probably more than I should have. Fries and gyros were great too. They've been around for over 30 years. Notable in Utah, I think, because there really weren't many great delis where you could get pastrami on anything, other than at the Italian markets downtown. Utah has changed a lost since I lived there, though. There is an unbelievable variety of restaurants and food available now.

Do I have a cheese problem?

I usually have at least six different kinds too, but I wouldn't call it a problem.

Should Hot Dogs Carry Warning Labels?

Warning labels on processed meats. Genius! That'll stop people from eating them. Maybe it will work as well as warning labels on packs of cigarettes. Yeah, don't think so.

What foods do you use as health remedies?

Hot lemonade with a teaspoon of honey works wonders on a sore throat. Ginger and peppermint are both very good for nausea. I swear kimchi chigae (soup) has healing properties. I rarely had colds when I lived in Korea, and it really helped clean out the sinuses.

I just killed my salad spinner!!!

I ruined my rubber spatula by setting it on the stove and somehow knocking it into the flame. It was truly on fire!
However, my biggest problem is rearranging the freezer and forgetting about the food I set on top of the fridge.
Oh, one time I attempted to microwave some popcorn and hit an extra 5, so it was set to cook for 20:55. I went down to fold some laundry and ran up when the smoke detector rang out. It had cooked over 6 minutes. I thought I ruined the microwave, but vinegar took out the stains and smell.

Camping

Dehydrated soups are easy to take. Bear Creek makes very tasty ones. You can also pack bags of dried beans and onions and bring packets of spices. Dehydrated fruits and also nuts are good to have on hand. You'll want to take some oil. You could also take a few bags of flour and make tortillas or pastas or breads (if you take a leavening ingredient). I'm assuming you have a dutch oven or skillet you'll be taking. Sounds like you're ready for an adventure. Have a great time!

Mmmmmm. That looks so delicious! The gods must be smiling. I sure am.

Green Beans

My favorite way is to simply blanch them, refrigerate and eat them with some yummy dip. You can also fry them up with garlic and zucchini (cook the zucchini until it's really soft) and serve with shredded parmesan or romano cheese.
