Five ingredient meals!

Yes. Here is a great recipe for low calorie mashed potatoes and low calorie mashed sweet potatoes with less than 5 ingredients. Delicious, low calorie, and easy to make!! :) Enjoy!

Are you a pizza person or a burger person?

I'm definitely a pizza person. I love thick pizza crust (I actually love these delicious pizza pretzels that have outer breading tastes just like restaurant quality thick crust). On my pizza I like extra tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, onions, goat cheese, and pine nuts. Sometimes I can even pass on the mozzarella and I just enjoy the toppings!

Baked Oatmeal

It might be steel cut oatmeal. It tends to be much thicker! You might want to ask what kind of oats they use next time you are there.

SOUP

I love this recipe for low calorie carrot soup. Since carrots are so dense, you don't even need cream. It is totally delicious.

I also really like amy's low sodium soups for times when I don't have time to cook!

Low Calorie Granola?

Thank you for all of your wonderful suggestions. I will try most of them and will definitely check out Bare Naked Granola!

No Turkey For Me!

I'm going to answer this from a vegetarian point of view, as there are clearly tons of meat substitutes. :) You can eat Tofurkey (which you can buy at Whole Foods) which is decent if you want to feel like you are eating turkey like everyone else, or you can skip the meat part of the meal all together. There are plenty of other delicious things to eat at Thanksgiving and if you skip the turkey, you can still enjoy all the rest...

Can Bananas be a Diet Food?

Yes, bananas are great, as are all fruits and vegetables. At the end of the day, they do count towards your overall calories, though, just like with anything you eat. One of my favorite things to eat are frozen bananas (they are very sweet and are great for dessert). I love all frozen fruit, really.

To make frozen bananas just un-peel a banana, cut it in half and put it into a ziplock bag. Then put it into the freezer for a few hours.

Anybody a Freegan?

I saw it on Oprah. At first I was disgusted but then I started to understand it a bit better. I'm not about to "jump in" but I am more aware now of how much food is wasted by our society.

Thomas Keller's French Laundry is SO not worth it.

That's really disappointing. I've been dreaming of going to French Laundry for a long time, but maybe it isn't worth it. I absolutely love Gary Danko by the way. You can't go wrong there!

I put ____ in my yogurt

I start with fat free Fage Yogurt of course! Sounds like a lot of people do. :)

Things I put in it (not all at once!) include: low calorie cereal, low calorie trail mix, honey, frozen cherries, blueberries, or frozen bananas, maple syrup, a Trader Joe's chocolate wedge, cocoa nibs, nuts, nutmeg or cinnamon.

Break Up Food/ Emotional Food

Awww. Try to treat yourself to something special like a massage or a mani or pedi. If you can get out of the house you might be less tempted to eat too much. But, if you want to spend one day wallowing, may I suggest you eat some bad food that is lower calorie, like low calorie frozen yogurt or soy ice cream instead of ben and jerry's ice cream? That way you won't feel as badly the next day. Here is my favorite low cal soy ice cream:

Day Old Soup : What's your Favorite?

We eat tons of carrot soup. I sometimes add cream and sometimes I don't. The carrots are so thick that the soup is naturally creamy. I like to toast pita and dip it in the soup. Yum! Now I know what I want for dinner! :)

Do you scoop your bagels?

I eat the "low-carb" Western Bagels. They are a decent size and only about 100 calories or so. They don't have any weird ingredients in them and they satisfy my every bagel craving!

coffee

I mix half a cup of coffee with half a package of hot chocolate mix for my own, "heathier" mocha. :)

What 'good' food advice doesn't 'work' for you...

"It is all about calories in vs. calories out." I've tried many ways to approach my dieting by using this formula, but it is so much more complicated in that. How many times, for instance, have I gone to the gym 5 days a week, only to come home starving, and see the scale not move an inch. Dieting and being healthy is really about finding a lifestyle that works for you. When I say lifestyle, I mean one where you don't feel the need to overeat (you aren't stressed, you don't rely on food for anything beyond fuel), you love exercise, and you nourish yourself with foods that make you feel good and full.

WTF pita?

My three favorite things to eat in/on pita are: #1: cheese, #2: hummus, and #3: pizza (on top of the pita instead of high-calorie pizza dough). I've also substituted it instead of Naan sometimes when I've eaten Indian at home.

Enjoy!

OMG, I got that French Laundry rez!

You are so lucky! Please let us know how good the food is and how much you enjoyed it (and whether you think it was worth the trouble/money).

What kind of food do you go out for/order in?

Great question. I usually eat out for Indian and for Sushi -- both types of food that I know I can make very well on my own at home. I tend to make my own pizza and my own pasta, since the difference between what I can make and what I can pay for isn't that big. I'm not a big meat eater, so I rarely find myself in a hamburger joint or a steakhouse. Basically, I've turned eating out into something I do once a week (and look forward to), and then I accept the food I make at home during the week as not being as good, but likely being more healthy and good for me. Hope that helps!

Healthy food blogs?

I tried to post this link earlier but it looks like it got taken down.

http://www.yummydietfood.com

It is my blog on low calorie food. All of the foods I blog about are healthy -- no high fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated ingredients. And, most have all natural/organic ingredients. So, low calorie, healthy, food ideas. I've featured fage yogurt, kashi cereal, frozen cherries, and all natural/organic frozen meals. Please let me know if you find the site helpful.
